ASSET-Eight would like to honor those successful in home caregivers who receive exemplary ratings and are active in their pursuit of professional development, and working toward or have achieved their National Child Development Care Credential (CDA).

Selected Classroom Innovators will receive the following:

  • a stipend of $1000 for completing specific deliverables
  • a technology package that includes a laptop, wireless internet connectivity, and LCD projector (through special grant funds from KCET!)
  • an award/plaque presented at a AZ State Capitol recognition ceremony
  • recognition in statewide and local print publications

The deliverables required of each selected Classroom Innovators include:

  1. Becoming an APLO/Los Niños Workshop trainer, and conduct at least 2 workshops within the school community for family, friends and neighbors to share PBS resources for children and parents from A Place of Our Own/Los Niños en Su Casa, PBS Raising Readers, and PBS Parents.
  2. Show evidence of actively recruiting friends, family and neighbors for participation in PBS TeacherLine "Raising Readers" courses and A Place of Our Own/Los Niños en Su Casa workshops
  3. Develop and submit 1 lesson/activity around APLO/Los Niños content, and additional content from PBS broadcast or online resources for children that can be published online on ASSET-Eight’s APLO/Los Niños webpage, based on AZ Early Learning Standards
  4. If available, co-present and/or participate in an exhibit booth for ASSET-Eight alongside ASSET Professional Development Team supporting publicity for APLO/Los Niños in the community (i.e. Raising Readers launch event for AZ – October 25, 2008)
  5. Begin, or show progress, on meeting the early childhood care credential (CDA), along with participating in at least 1 PBS TeacherLine "Raising Readers" online course.

Eight-ASSET, is proud to offer KCET’s “A Place of Our Own” on air, online and through face to face workshops for families and caregivers of young children across Arizona. “A Place Of Our Own” airs on Eight at 5 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The companion show for Spanish speakers, “Los Niños en Su Casa,” airs on Eight at 5 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ASSET is Eight-Arizona PBS’s educational outreach department and implements programs that promote early learning including PBS Kids Raising Readers, Ready to Learn, “A Place of Our Own/Los Niños en Su Casa”, and Kindergartener in Progress™.

Major funding for A Place of Our Own/Los Niños en Su Casa is provided by BP, First 5 California, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. A Place of Our Own/Los Niños en Su Casa is a production of KCET/Los Angeles in association with Sesame Workshop and 44 Blue Productions, Inc.
