Lesson Topic and Text: Joash Repairs the Temple II Kings 11:1-12:16

A.  Lesson Content (the facts/stories that will be covered in this lesson)

1. Joash was one year old when he was taken by Jehoiada’s wife to live in the Temple.

2. Joash lived in the Temple for 6 years and the priest, Jehoiada taught him about God.

3. When Joash was 7, Jehoiada anointed Joash and crowned him king.

4. Jehoiada, Joash, and the people made a covenant with the Lord, promising to be the Lord’s people.

5. The people destroyed all of the altars for the idols, and the idols.

6. When Joash became older, he wanted to repair the Temple. He ordered the priests to collect money for the repairs, but years went by with no repairs.

7. Joash and Jehoiada placed a large box outside the Temple and people placed their money gift for the Temple in the box.

8. As long as Jehoiada was alive, sacrifices were made at the Temple, but after he died, the people turned back to idol worship.

B. Specific Objectives

  1. God used different people to try and bring the people of Israel away from idol worship and back to Him.
  1. Jehoiada, the priest, loved God and followed His commandments.
  2. In the beginning, Joash loved God and wanted to honor God by repairing the Temple.
  3. God was with Joash and the people as long as they loved Him and worshiped Him.

10. Josiah had all the idols and altars to idols torn down and destroyed.

11. Josiah ordered that the people celebrate the Passover which had not been done in a long time.

Lesson Topic and Text: Nehemiah Rebuilds the Wall Nehemiah 1-6

A.  Lesson Content (the facts/stories that will be covered in this lesson)

1. Nehemiah, a Jew, was the cupbearer for King Artaxerxes.

2. The temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed and there were Jews there working, rebuilding the temple and the city.

3. Nehemiah’s brother told him that the wall had not been repaired in Jerusalem.

4. Nehemiah wanted to help the people in Jerusalem.

5. Nehemiah prayed to God to help him be able to help the people of Jerusalem.

6. Nehemiah asked the king if he could leave and help rebuild the wall around Jerusalem.

7. The king allowed Nehemiah to go to Jerusalem.

8. Nehemiah traveled to Jerusalem and told the rulers and priests he was there to help them and God had answered his prayers to help them.

9. They began rebuilding the wall.

10. Two enemies tried to keep them from rebuilding, Sanballat and Tobiah.

11. The people were not discouraged by Sanballat and Tobiah.

12. The wall was rebuilt.

B. Specific Objectives

  1. Nehemiah was a man of God and wanted to help his people.
  2. Nehemiah prayed to God to ask for help.
  3. God answered Nehemiah’s prayers.
  4. Nehemiah encouraged the Lord’s people.
  5. With God’s help, the people rebuilt the wall.
