When someone mentions the word AIDS what comes in your mind? Most of you

have your own personal interpretation of it .But in this program we look at AIDS generally.

First we will look at the meaning of AIDS.AIDS means acquired. Immune deficiency syndrome .It is caused by a virus called HIV meaning Human Immune deficiency

Virus.

When someone has the virus it does not necessarily means he/she is infected with AIDA but has greater chances of getting the virus because the white blood cells has all been damaged.

The first signs of AIDS we reported in the year 1970s .It is not each and every person has his/her own story but the most recent research shows that in the year 1940s in Kinshasa

the disease came from an animal………….”

NARRATOR CONTINUES

“There are various ways of transmitting AIDS. These are…

-Having unprotected sex with an infected person. Because you never know whether a person is infected or not by just looking at a person when you havesex without protection.

They are high chances of being infected

-Sharing of sharp unsterilised objects. It’s believed that this virus can exist for eight seconds outside the body so sharing the sharp objects creates great chances of being infected.

-During blood transfusion doctors should be very careful when performing blood transfusion because giving a patient who is HIV negative blood from a HIV positive person will cause the person who is negative to be infected.

-Mother to her baby through breast feeding. The reason being the milk being a fluid that the virus can pass through to the baby.

-Mother to the baby through birth this when the cutting of the umbilical cord the mother’s blood can come get together with the child with the virus.

-During accidents there’s possibility of infected people affecting those who are negative because during accident incidence people get cuttings and when the wounds get in contact they affect each other..

How will you know that you have the disease? They are various signs that have been proved; this signs are as follows:

  • Loosing weight
  • Fever
  • Lack of appetite
  • Headache
  • Red lips
