POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

ADMISSIONS AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

I. POLICY

1.01 International students must meet all the requirements for admissions outlined in “Admission Requirements” (VIII-A-1.1) just as other students.

1.02 An international student expressing interest in enrolling at Allen Community College must have the following papers on file before an official I-20 (USCIS Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student) will be issued:

1.  Application for admission (International Student version)

2.  Statement of Finance

3.  Authenticated and translated transcripts of all academic records.

4.  Proof of English proficiency: (School TOEFL # is 6305)

  1. Minimum TOFEL score: 520 (paper test), 190 (computer test), or 68 (web test), or
  2. Official transcript documenting at least 24 credit hours of English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) course work with a 2.5 GPA or higher, or
  3. Official transcript documenting 24 credit hours of college level course work with a 2.5 GPA or higher and demonstrated English proficiency from an American university or college, or
  4. Be a citizen of an English-speaking country

5.  Payment of the $50.00 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee

1.03  An I-20 will be created and issued to the student when the necessary criteria have been met. The I-20 will be presented to an American Consulate in order to secure the appropriate visa to enter the United States as a student at Allen Community College.

1.04  Before an international student can attend classes at Allen, the following documents must be presented to the PDSO/DSO:

1. I-20 (F-1 status)

2. Passport/Visa

1.05  To remain in compliance, international students must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours each semester). Of the full-time hours, 9 credit hours must be taken on campus. Other hours beyond 9 credit hours may be taken online.

1.06  If the student does not enroll in the semester for which the I-20 was issued, all information must be re-submitted before another I-20 will be issued.

1.07  All Allen Community College international students are required to purchase a medical insurance plan through the college.

1.08  Payment of all tuition, fees, insurance, and room/board (if applicable) is due one week before the first day of classes each term

1.09  International students who meet the criteria listed below may be admitted to Allen Community College but will not be issued an I-20 nor will they be required to submit a Verification of Financial Support or pay the $50.00 application fee. These students will need to complete the International Student application, provide transcripts, and show proof of English proficiency. Students who are not issued an I-20 will generally be:

1. International students attending only online from their home country.

2. International students with F-1 visas attending as concurrent high school

students.

3. International students with F-1 visas visiting from their full-time institution.
