Vision
The bid has been designed to deliver on the Olympic ideal

An Athletes Games
A London Games will be an athletes’ Games.
London 2012’s bid has been designed by Olympic and Paralympic athletes for Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Ensuring that London’s bid will deliver a world beating sporting, social and cultural experience for athletes.
The London 2012 bid is unique in creating an Olympic Park containing so many venues and sports in one place. 80% of athletes will now be within 20 minutes of their event venues and 50% of Olympic athletes will live and compete in the Olympic Park itself.
The Olympic Park venues will be complimented by two other Olympic Zones, The Thames Zone, just South of the Park, centred on the River Thames. And the Central Zone which will take in some of London’s most famous landmarks and sporting
The Athletes’ Village will be built specifically for Olympic and Paralympic athletes. We are determined that at the London Games in 2012 athletes will spend their time competing not commuting.
Transport
A London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 will be better served by public transport than any staged previously - All spectator access to the Olympic venues exclusively by public transport
The Olympic Park will be served by 10 rail lines through three rail access points at West Ham, Stratford Regional and Stratford International stations, unprecedented capacity capable of moving 240, 000 people per hour.
between now and the 2012 Games, a further £18 billion plus - will be invested in London’s public transport infrastructure. This investment is not dependent on winning the bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Access for the disabled has also been one of our key priorities
all London’s 21,000 taxis and the entire DLR network are fully accessible to all
London Underground’s mobility-accessibility programme has been prioritised for stations serving the Olympics.
By 2005 all London’s buses will be accessible
Our transport plans show beyond doubt that London has the capacity, the flexibility and the confirmed and contracted investment to ensure that public transport provision for the Games is another jewel in the crown of London’s bid.
A Sustainable London Games
The London Games will also be the most sustainable Games to date. We have embedded environmental sustainability at every stage of planning and implementation.
Our bid is built on a coherent vision developed in conjunction with WWF - Towards a One Planet Olympics - which focuses on a London Games that is both sustainable and deliverable.
Legacy
The London 2012 bid is focussed not just on creating a spectacular Games -it is about creating a lasting sporting, cultural and community legacy.
A London Games in 2012 will provide an opportunity to deliver much needed sporting infrastructure. The legacy facilities in the Olympic Park will include an Aquatics Centre, a Velo Park, Hockey Centre and Indoor Sports Centre.
The converted Olympic Stadium will form the core of a London Olympic Institute. The Institute will be open to all abilities and will focus on promoting the Olympic ideal through sport, culture and the environment, leaving a lasting legacy for the Olympic Movement.
A Community Legacy
The Olympic and Paralympic Games will leave a lasting impression and legacy for the local community.
Creation of a major new urban park in the capital, restoration of large tracts of land in east London with new green spaces and wetlands, building bridges between communities and providing much needed socially diverse housing, thousands of new jobs and important new health and educational facilities.
The Olympic Park will stimulate the economic regeneration of London’s poorest and most disadvantaged area and rebalance London’s centre of gravity to the east.
A Legacy for the Olympic Movement
A London Games will also provide a major legacy for the Olympic movement by enhancing its strong and positive reputation.
London’s place as a global media centre offers world class facilities which guarantees excellent television coverage.

Our reputation for delivering excellence without extravagance, sound operational practices and strong project management skills provides the confidence that the Games will be a credit to the Movement.
Arts and Culture
The staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London will be a unique and inspiring experience, not only in sport but also culture and education.
Throughout the world London is recognised as a world class centre of arts and culture – in opera, in dance, in theatre, the visual arts, as well as fashion and architecture. London 2012’s cultural programme will tap into this rich vein of artistic and cultural talent.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be spectacular events drawing on the world wide reputation for excellence of our creative industries, combining the talents of world-class directors, artists, lighting engineers, illusionists and carnivalists.
World Cultural Fair
London will host its first World Cultural Fair in honour of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including a month long Olympic and Paralympic Proms hosted by the BBC, a festival of international Shakespeare productions at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and a Five Rings Exhibition where London museums will stage major exhibitions of world art and artefacts drawn from five continents and curated by invited international teams.
A five day Olympic Carnival - inspired by London’s Notting Hill Carnival – the largest open air event in Europe - will maintain the celebratory momentum between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, highlighting the Olympic ideal of global unity through mass participation.
And a Festival of World Youth culture staged along the waterways, bridges and streets of the revitalised Lea Valley will celebrate the renaissance of east London. Through street dance, fashion, music, design and urban sport displays, the festival will showcase the energy and creativity of London’s youth culture.
Victoria Park in the east of London and Hyde Park in the west, will be focal points for celebration of the Games.
A Deliverable Games
A London Games will be a deliverable and financially successful Games.
London’s plans for 2012 are already detailed and well advanced.
· We have planning consent for the Olympic Park secured
· Venues already under construction
· Transport infrastructure in place
· A funding model agreed and funds committed
[we can announce today that] the Games are already forecast to make a profit. With 60% of that profit to be ploughed directly back into grassroots sport in the UK.
The UK’s strong market for sponsorship, TV rights, merchandise and ticket sales will ensure that the London 2012 Games is built on very firm financial foundations.

London can promise an unforgettable Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, with an impact that lasts long beyond the Games themselves.
