Faculty Technology Workshops – September 2006

Technology professional development opportunities open to all faculty members, will be held in the Phillips Academy Computer Center (PACC), in the lower level of the library. To register, please contact the technology help desk at ext. 4357 (HELP) or at . Unregistered participants to workshops are accepted, if space allows.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th

2:30 – 4:30 Walk-in Services

Support staff from the Technology office will be available to assist faculty with the following: making your course available in PAnet, configuring your personally-owned computer for access to the PAWireless network, helping you clean your computer of malware, setting up voicemail, installing academy-provided anti-virus software and to answer any other questions you may have regarding services or systems.

2:30 – 3:00 How to Customize the PAnet Portal to Work for Me – (30 minutes)

This workshop introduces the campus portal, which includes Campus News, Resources, Online Schedules, News feeds, etc.

3:00 – 3:30 Finding Free Images to Download from the Web – (30 minutes)

You can always use images to promote interest in a particular topic. It can be time consuming finding an image in a book and scanning it, in order to place it in a document. This workshop will cover searching on the Web for “free” images and using them in Microsoft Word.

3:30 – 4:30 PAnet’s Blackboard Course Management System – (60 minutes)

This workshop will cover the options available in your on-line courses. Every course is available through PAnet. Your PAnet course provides a list of your class participants, group email to participants, space for your syllabus, resources and assignments.

12:30 – 2:00 Using the Language Learning Center (90 minutes)

Designed primarily for language teachers but useful in a variety of disciplines, this workshop will cover the basics of how to use the lab and some more advanced topics for those who already have experience. These two tracks will run simultaneously. Participants may move from one group to the other based on topic and their prior knowledge.

This workshop provides general tips and information on how to get the most out of your computer and where to find help when you need it. Some of the topics that will be covered include; working with files and media (CD’s, DVDs, USB drives), computer maintenance (virus, malware, system health) and support options available on campus.

At one time or another, you will receive an email with a document attached. Many people still have problems sending and receiving email attachments. This workshop should take the mystery out of the process.
