Good evening and welcome to the Manhattan 2014 Friends of Scouting kickoff dinner. It’s great to see so many friends and scouting supporters gathered here today. I am Mark Knackendoffel, the Manhattan Friends of Scouting Dinner Chairman. I want to thank each of you for joining us this evening to demonstrate your support of the Boy Scouts of America here in the Konza District and to honor Dr. David Pauls. Before we get started, I’d like to thank our dinner supporters for this evening: Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine and Steel & Pipe Supply Co. for the meal and Clark & Platt Law Firm for hosting the cocktails. I would also like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Pete Hodges, Konza District Finance Chairman as well as our committee members for this event: Neil Horton, Dr. Roger Fingland and Barry Clark.

We also have the Coronado Area Council Assistant Scout Executive Ross Munt with us tonight.

As you know, it costs $200 to support one boy in Scouting for one year. Financial contributions from individuals, such as you, will allow the Council and the District to support each Pack, Troop and Crew. This support provides many things:
· Outstanding outdoor program facilities at Camp Brown and Camp Hansen.
· Membership recruitment resources and materials for all units.
· District and Council events, including Camporee, Zoo Day, Klondike, Cub Scout Fun Day, Day Camp, and Family Camp.
· Training courses for every volunteer position and monthly Leaders’ Roundtables.
· Record keeping, including unit advancement and training.
· Accident and liability insurance.
· Full-time Field Staff to assist your son’s Pack or Troop.
· The council website, electronic newsletter, and print newsletter.
· Special High Adventure opportunities, including the National Jamboree and Philmont Scout Ranch.
· Scout Service Center and Scout Shop.
As a supporter of Scouting and a believer in its core values I would like to encourage each of you to support scouting at the $1000 level. At this level you will be providing an opportunity for 5 young boys to learn and grow in their citizenship, leadership and moral character. I believe very strongly in what scouting provides to the youth of the area. Now, I understand that you know your own personal finances and should ultimately decide at what level to contribute, but I would like to show my support and contribute $1000 right now in support of the Konza District and the Coronado Area Council.
(PERESENT DONATION TO MARK KNACKENDOFFEL)
Please take the next couple of minutes to fill out your cards and a committee member will be by your table to collect them. Be sure to indicate the month you wish to be billed for your commitment and be certain you sign your card before you return it to the volunteer.
Once we have collected all the pledge cards our helpers will add them up and announce our total before the end of the program.
We will take a few minutes now to complete the cards. We will resume our program shortly.
(PLEASE GIVE ENOUGH TIME TO FILL OUT PLEDGE CARDS)
Closing Remarks Mark K.
Thank you again for being here and helping me in honoring Dr. David Pauls for his outstanding contributions to the youth in our community. Let’s give him one more round of applause.
As we conclude our program I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for becoming Friends of Scouting. Without your support the Boy Scout programs of our community could not exist.
God bless you all for what you do in this community. We stand adjourned.
