Welcome to Choir!

GOALS FOR THE YEAR

1.  To learn all we can about music and to become the finest and most knowledgeable musicians possible.

2.  To understand and experience the joy of being part of a performing musical ensemble. This includes understanding and embracing the roles of teamwork and commitment in choir.

3.  To have fun! Music (and especially singing!) is enjoyable. The information in this handbook will help all choir students to have a fun experience singing this year.

IMPORTANT!!!

Because of our goal of commitment and teamwork, we need consistency in our singers. Therefore, choir is a year-long class. Students will not be permitted to leave or join choir class mid-year. Any schedule changes need to be completed by Friday, August 29th. (Exceptions are made for students who need additional academic or behavioral assistance or intervention).

Please take care of the following by August 22nd (These will be your first few grades in choir):

·  Complete and return the Choir Contract (in this handbook)

·  Complete and return the Performance Shirt Order Form (in this handbook)

·  Complete and return the Volunteer Form (in this handbook)

·  Bring to class a 1" three ring binder (any color) that will stay in the choir

room all year. Please include some lined paper and a pencil pouch with pencils and a highlighter in your binder. Label the binder’s spine clearly with your first and last name.

·  Log on to charmsoffice.com to add/update parent contact information

(directions in this handbook)

PERFORMANCE ATTIRE

You are required to wear the following outfit for all choir performances this year:

·  Black dress pants (not jeans or navy blue or faded black pants). Pants must be full length. No skirts.

·  Black socks and black dress shoes (no tennis shoes/sneakers or flip flops).

·  CHIS Choir Performance Shirt. These are white polo shirts with “Citrus Hills Choir” embroidered on the front that you order through Mrs. Landrum. ***Please ensure that you fill out the Performance Shirt Order Form and return to Mrs. Landrum by Friday, August 22nd.***

Remember that while you are wearing this outfit, you are representing our choir, school, and community: look your best! No student will be permitted to perform without the proper concert attire. Any student missing a concert due to inappropriate attire will have his or her grade lowered as described in the grading policy covering an unexcused absence from a performance.

CHIS HONORS CHOIR AUDITIONS!!!

WHAT IS HONORS CHOIR? Honors Choir is an auditioned choir that meets during 7th period. Students are in Honors Choir because they love to sing, are very talented, and want to perform a wide variety of music that is challenging. Students in Honors Choir are also required to sing in Beginning or Intermediate Choir.

WHAT ARE THE ACADEMIC AND BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS? Students in honors choir are expected to fulfill their academic and behavioral requirements for all of their classes; students are required to follow all school and classroom rules. Students who are not able to maintain high academic and behavioral standards will be subject to removal from the group.

HOW DO I AUDITION? Auditions will be held in the choir room during 7th period and lunch during the first two-three weeks of school in August. Students will sign up through their Beginning or Intermediate Choir class. For the audition, students will be required to do the following:

1. Sing a prepared song of the student’s choosing (60 seconds only)

2. Sing a major scale up and down a cappella (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do-Ti-La-Sol-Fa-Mi-Re-Do)
3. Sing a major triad a cappella (Do-Mi-Sol-Mi-Do)
4. Sing an octave a cappella (Do-Do-Do)
5. Sight read one melodic and one rhythmic example (Inability to sight read does NOT mean you are automatically cut from the group. Don’t stress out!!!)
6. Sing tonal memory patterns (Echo notes played on the piano)

I am looking forward to hearing everyone audition! Remember…the only way you will definitely not make it is by not trying!!!

Welcome To the 2014-2015

Citrus Hills CHOIR Program!

We are so glad that your child has chosen to make choir a part of their intermediate school curriculum. When a student becomes a choir member their parents/guardians automatically become booster members. The CHIS Music Boosters is also open to other interested community members.

2014-15 CHIS Music Boosters – Choir Financial Information

The Citrus Hills choir program strives to give students a life-long love for music and music making. However, running a successful choir program is expensive, and, unfortunately, we get a minimal amount of funding to help cover expenses. Your children work hard and need financial support. If we all work together, this program will continue to be a bright spot throughout our community and state. These two years of Intermediate School will begin setting up your child for success and amazing opportunities in high school!
