HOW TO USE THE LIBRARY’S WEB PAGE TO FIND NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINE ARTICLES AS WELL AS MANY OTHER TYPES OF INFORMATION

Step Three
Click on Electronic Info (If you want to find a book held by one of our branches you would choose Lirico instead – see your local branch for information on accessing our online catalogue)

Click on title of database you would like to access

If you are accessing this page from home, a box will appear asking for your new 14 digit library barcode. Type the barcode in the box provided using all 14 numbers and press the button labelled “Submit” or “OK” or “Enter”. If you are a resident of the new city of Ottawa and do not have a library card please contact your local library for your free library card.

Biography and Genealogy Master Index
Indexes current, readily-available biographical reference sources, as well as the most important retrospective reference tools. Included are people living or dead from every field of activity and from all areas of the world. Includes references only.

Biography Resource Center
Find biographical information on more than one million people from throughout history, around the world, and across all subject areas.

CanCorp Financials
Descriptive and financial information for over 12,000 Canadian public and crown corporations.
Available only at Main Branch.
Financial Post (FPinfomart.ca)
Provides detailed business and financial information for over 4500 companies publicly-traded in Canada. Resources include investor reports, historical reports, industry reports, information on dividends and an archive of new issues. Also included is a special analyzer tool to help you interpret historical financial data as well as some additional databases including some information on other companies.

Value Line Investment Survey Online
Provides in-depth investment information and advice for over 1,700 U.S. publicly traded companies and 95 industries.

Value Line Investment Survey Online - Small and Mid-Cap Edition
1800 stocks not included in the regular survey are covered here. Information is similar to the regular service except there is no estimate of earnings and dividends and a detailed description of the company replaces the analysts' commentaries.

Genealogy
Ancestry Plus
Provides access to more than 1 billion names in more than 3,000 databases. It includes primary source documents and images and a variety of genealogical research features.
Some of the databases included are the Social Security Death Index, English & U.S. Census Records, Ireland Vital Records, German Immigration Records, and miscellaneous databases dedicated to specific ethnic origins and regions.

Access a variety of academic and popular magazines articlesfocused on complementary, alternative and integrated approaches to health care and wellness.
Clinical Pharmacology
Concise drug descriptions for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs. Articles include consumer information on things like possible side effects.
Health Source: Academic Edition
Full text of 600 scholarly magazines focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Academic Edition also features abstracts and indexing for an additional 250 academic magazines.
Health Source: Consumer Edition
Articles from more than 150 health magazines, 170 general health, nutrition, and professional health-care publications, 20 health reference books, and 1,200 health-related pamphlets. Includes Clinical Reference Systems, 7,000 reports on medical topics.

Canadian Literary Centre
Consists of a collection of reference books and magazines that talk about Canadian authors and the fiction and poetry that they write.
CHOIX
Annotated bibliography of French language books. In French only.

Literature Resource Center
This database includes biographical, bibliographical, and critical content about literary works and authors from all time periods and nationalities although the coverage has more depth for American authors.
Novelist
A database of fiction titles for adults, children and teens. Contains reviews, plot descriptions, award winners etc.

Biblio Branchée
Access articles from an excellent selection of Canadian French language newspapers including Le Droit (1993-), La Presse, Le Devoir, Le Soleil, and the magazine l'Actualité.
Available within any of the library’s 33 branches.
Canadian Newsstand
Access newspaper articles from the following Canadian newspapers: Ottawa Citizen, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Leader Post (Regina), Montreal Gazette, National Post, St. Catherines Standard, Star Phoenix, (Saskatoon) Times Colonist (Victoria), Toronto Star (starting Jan. 2004), Vancouver Star, Vancouver Sun, and Windsor Star. The full text can be accessed in many cases as far back as 1985. The database is updated daily with a time delay of 7 days.
Canadian Periodical Index
Provides an index to articles in more than 400 English and French language magazines. It provides the full text of articles and reports from approximately 160 of these publications. This database includes the full text of the Globe & Mail minus the classifieds and the Sports and Business Sections.
Canadian Business and Current Affairs (CBCA)
Provides an index to articles in over 750 Canadian periodicals from as far back as 1982. As of 1993, CBCA contains the full text for more than 300 of these sources.
Canadian Reference Centre
Contains international and Canadian magazines, newspapers & newswires and reference books in order to provide a large collection of Canadian full text content. Some included magazines are: Beaver, Canadian Geographic, Canadian Wildlife, History Today, Maclean’s, National Wildlife, and Scientific American.
Electric Library Canada
Provides the complete articles from more than 750 magazines and 200 newspapers. Coverage includes Canadian, U.S. and international content. Includes the Ottawa Sun starting in 1999 and Maclean’s magazine starting in 1994. It also includes transcripts of some public affairs television programs.
Globe and Mail - Canada’s Heritage From 1844
Digitized image of the microfilm version of The Globe and Mail newspaper since its inception as The Globe in 1844 until December 1999.
MasterFILE Premier
A very large mostly American database. It provides full-text for more than 1800 magazines as well as an index to another 2200 journals. It includes some selective indexing of the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Also included is a database of pictures.
Paper of Record
Historical archive of full-page newspaper images where you can search for unique coverage of past events. The archive is created from newspaper collections on microfilm preserving the original format of the paper. You will find titles such as the Bytown Gazette, Ottawa Free Press, Perth Courier, Renfrew Mercury, La Minerve, Winnipeg Times and port cities newspapers like the Quebec Mercury and Halifax Gazette which may contain passenger lists.
Repère
An index to articles appearing in 260 French magazines. Includes the full text of magazine articles found in 44 Quebec magazines.
