Tension / Gauge:

8sts = 1in (2.5cm) using size 12 (2.75mm). Knitting Needles and 4Ply Yarn.

9 rows = 1in (2.5cm).

BASIC BODY FORM / STAND:

MATERIALS:

Cardboard Disc (thick) Approx. 3 ½ in (9cms) in diameter.

Cardboard Tube 6 ½ in (17 cms0 in length, wide enough to fit round dolls hip.

Approx 25gms of White Double Knitting Yarn.

Size 12 (2.75mm\) Knitting \Needles.

Clear Glue.

Polyester Filling.

Approx 12ins (30,5cms) x ½ in (1cm) White Ribbon.

IN PREPARATION:

(To fit an 11 ½ in (28cm) Fashion doll).

If card is not available, it can be cut from any thick card.

Glue one end of tube to centre of disc. Leave to dry thoroughly.

KNITTED TUBE:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) knitting Needles and White Double Knitting Yarn, cast on and K 76sts.

Starting with a P. row, continue in st st until work measures 6 ½ in (16cms).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: (hole row)K2tog, across row to last st, K1 (38sts).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K1, (Yf, K 2tog, across row to last st) Yf, K1.

Next Row: P.

Cast off (Bind off).

TO ASSEMBLE:

Glue top of tube 1/8 in (0.5cm) from top edge.

Place Knitted tube over card tube, leaving “hole” row just above edge of cardboard tube. Press together.

Proceed to stuff polyester filling between knitted tube and cardboard tube with small amounts, through bottom, ensuring that it is firm and even and free of lumps.

Continue to fill evenly until you reach the cardboard disc.

Gather lower edge of knitted tube to fit circumference of edge of cardboard disc.

Stretch knitted tube over cardboard disc to just overlap edge

Pull up gathers and glue into place, flattening gathers as you go.

Place doll firmly into the centre of tube.

Thread ribbon through “holes” at top edge and tie firmly and securely at doll’s waist with a bow at back.

PETTICOAT:

MATERIALS:

50gm White 4Ply Yarn.

Size 13 (2.25mm) Knitting needles.

Size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Press Fastener.

Sewing Needle.

Sewing Thread to match.

Using Size 13 (2.25mm) Knitting Needles, and White 4Ply yarn cast on and K 22sts.

Work 3 rows in K 1 P1 rib.

Change to size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K; Inc in every st across row (44sts).

Next Row: P.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 176sts on needle.

Starting with a P row, continue in st st until work measures 7in (18cm).

Next 5 rows: K.

Next Row: P.

Next 5 rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up back seam, leaving 1½ in (4 cm) open at waist edge.

Sew press fastener to close over ribbed rows.

OUTFIT:

100 gm Main Colour 4Ply Knitting Yarn.

50gm Rust Brown Double Knitting Yarn.

Oddment of Cream 4Ply Knitting Yarn.

Small length of very narrow Black Ribbon.

1Mtr x ½ in Ribbon to match Main Colour Yarn.

Size 13 (2.25mm) Knitting Needles.

Size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Press Fasteners.

Sewing Threads to match.

Sewing Needle.

SKIRT:

Using size 13 (2.25mm) Knitting Needles and Main Colour 4Ply Knitting Yarn, cast on and K. 22sts.

Next Row: P.

Change to size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Next Row: K; Inc in every st (44sts).

Next Row: P.

Rep last 2 rows, until there are 176sts on needle.

Starting with a P. row, continue in st st until work measures 4 in (11.5cm), ending with a P. row.

**Picot Edging:

Break off Main Colour and join Rust Brown Double Knitting Yarn and work as follows:-

Next Row: Rib to end.

Continuing in rib pattern, Inc in 1st and last st on next and alternate rows until there are 15sts on needle.

Staring with a K. row, continue in st st until st st portion, measures 2 in (5cm).

Front Neck Shaping:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Main Colour 4Ply Yarn, cast on and K. 5sts.

Starting with a P. row, st st 12 rows.

Next Row: P. to last 2sts, P2tog.

Rep last 4 rows, until 1st remains.

Cast off (Bind off).

With WS facing, sew front side panels to front centre panel, avoiding edging.

With WS facing, sew back side panels to backs, avoiding edging.

Sleeves: (Both alike)

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Main Colour 4Ply Yarn, PU and K. 20sts around armhole shaping.

Starting with a P. row st st 23 rows.

Sleeve Cuff: (Both alike)

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K. 10, turn.

Starting with a P. row, st st 5 rows.

Cast off (Bind off).

Sleeve Edging:(Both alike)

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Rust Double Knitting Yarn, starting at side of sleeve cuff (sleeve seam side), PU and K. up side, along top of cuff, down cuff divide, up other side of divide, along top and down other side seam edge.

Next Row: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

Collar:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting \Needles and Cream 4Ply Yarn, staring at neck back opening PU and K. in every st around neck edge.

Next 3 Rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

With WS facing, sew up side and sleeve seams as far as cuffs. Turn to RS and sew up cuff seam.

Sew bodice edging ends to lower bodice edge at front and backs.

Fold Cuffs to right side of sleeve and secure edges.

Sew press fasteners to back opening to close.

Make a small bow from narrow ribbon and sew to centre front neck edge just under collar.

FALSE INNER SLEEVE: (Both alike)

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Cream 4Ply Yarn, cast on and K 20sts.

Starting with a P. row, st st 8 rows.

Next Row: K2tog across row (10sts).

Next 3 Rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up side seams.

Thread a piece of yarn through top edge of sleeve, place on doll and pull up tightly to fit.

BONNET:

Back:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Main Colour 4Ply Yarn, cast on and K. 8sts.

Next Row: K; Inc in 1st and last st (10sts).

Next Row: P.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 16sts on needle.

Starting with a P. row, st st 3 rows.

Next Row: K; Dec in 1st and last st (14sts).

Next Row: P.

Rep last 2 rows until 8 sts remain.

Next Row: P.

Cast off (Bind off).

Crown:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) knitting Needles and Main Colour 4Ply Yarn, cast on and K. 2sts.

Starting with a P. row, st st 3 rows.

Next Row: K; Inc in 1st and last st (3sts).

Rep last 4 rows, until there are 8sts on needle.

Starting with a P. row, st st 7 rows.

Next Row:K. Dec in 1st st, K. to end (7sts).

Starting with a P. row st st 3 rows.

Rep last 4 rows until there are 2sts remaining on needle.

Cast off (Bind off).

Brim:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Rust Brown Double Knitting Yarn, with RS of work facing, PU and K. in every st around outer (shaped) edge of crown.

Next Row: K.1, (Yf, K2tog, across row).

FINISHING OFF:

Fold brim in half along the YF row and slip stitch to WS of work.

With WS facing, sew bonnet back to crown, stretching back slightly to fit.

Sew ribbon ties to inside of crown.
