Storyboard Tips/Reminders:
- I recommend doing your research for resources BEFORE starting your Storyboard and FAVORITING (saving) the ones you like and might use. (You can even make FOLDERS to organize resources, from your Favorites page.) However, you can also easily do research from within your Storyboard as you work on it.
- Storyboard allows you to “Preview,” or look, at your Storyboard as you go so that you can see what the final board will look like. Always remember to SAVE before exiting to preview and when you are done working. You can return later to finish your Storyboard.
- Have a focus (your goal for the Storyboard), and it’s usually best to keep it simple: if you put in too many elements, it may be hard for your audience to see/read anything clearly. You can change things as you need to, but it’s easier to start with a plan than from scratch.
- There are3 kinds of elements that you will use to make your board. You will drag-and-drop each to your board, based on the kind of resource you wish to use:
TEXT BOX:“Text” means words. This element is for typing in your own words/phrases/passages or inserting text documents from PBSLM or outside text sources. As in Microsoft Word, here you can make font bigger or smaller, change colors, bold words, etc.
There will be a TEXT BOX already inserted at the top of your board so that you can give it a title.
CLIPART: Use this if you want to insert a clipart picture (illustration/drawing). PBSLM gives you a selection from which to choose.
MEDIA: Drag this box and drop it into your board if you want to add a video, photograph, or audio (sound) file. The prompt box will tell you what kinds of files you can use (such as .jpg, for example).
- Adesign element you can choose is BACKGROUND, which allows you to add a color, pattern, or theme to your board from choices provided in PBSLM.
- The elements—TEXT BOX, CLIPART, MEDIA, and BACKGROUND—are always located at the top of your board. Go there any time you need to add a resource.
- If you have too many elements (boxes) on your board, you can delete the ones you don’t want. Always add a resource by going back to the top and select the element you want (TEXT BOX, CLIPART, MEDIA).
- Don’t forget to give credit to the places you found any outside resources. When using things from PBS LearningMedia, you don’t have to give credit because PBSLM does it for you! You can also trust that PBSLM resources are credible!
