Non-Stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship in Medical Sciences

St Anne’s College

The Governing Body of St Anne's College invites applications for a Non-Stipendiary Research Fellowship in Medical Sciences. The post will be tenable from 6 November 2017 (or as soon as practicable thereafter) until 30 September 2018 in the first instance, with possible extension to 3 full years, dependent on ongoing funding for the Centre for Personalised Medicine.

A key aim of the Fellowship is to foster the ongoing relationship between the College undergraduate and postgraduate student body and the Centre for Personalised Medicine (CPM), a partnership between the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics and St Anne’s College (http://www.well.ox.ac.uk/cpm/home). Applicants for this Fellowship should be able to demonstrate an interest in the work and direction of the Centre, as well as a willingness to engage current undergraduate and postgraduate students and the Fellowship at St Anne’s in its work. Together with the existing CPM team the successful applicant will help to organize, promote and run engagement events ranging from student tutorials to international seminars. Applications are welcome from across the medical sciences and candidates should have a demonstrable interest in teaching and public engagement activities. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to set out their interests in and ideas for CPM initiatives.

It is expected that the Fellowship will be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a doctorate. Candidates who have not completed a doctorate should provide evidence that they are likely to be in a position to submit their thesis before taking up the Fellowship.

The Fellowship will be awarded until 30 September 2018 in the first instance and will be renewed up to a maximum of three years provided that the Academic Committee is satisfied that the Fellow is fulfilling its academic and other requirements, and that the Centre for Personalised Medicine continues to be funded after September 2018. To this end, the Fellow will be asked to submit a written report at the end of the Easter vacation of the first and second years. It is a condition of the Fellowship that the Fellow will live in Oxford and will take part in College life during term.

St Anne's has a large, international community of researchers. The collegiate nature of the University of Oxford provides a unique forum for collaborative working and interdisciplinary research. St Anne's is committed actively to developing this potential and to encouraging dialogue at all stages of academic life. Research activities at St Anne's are supported by a programme of workshops, seminars and lectures that bring together Research Fellows, Lecturers and Fellows, and give graduate students the chance to share their research. As well as the Centre for Personalised Medicine, the College also hosts two Science, Medicine and Culture projects and the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation project.
