8th Grade Open Ended Question and Rubric
Debbie, who is fifteen, rides to a party with her older friend Alisha. While at the party, Debbie is offered beer but refuses. She asks Alisha to take her home, but realizes that Alisha has been drinking. Alisha tells Debbie that she is capable of driving her home. Describe a decision Debbie could make that is healthful for both her and Alisha. Explain why this is a more healthful decision than allowing Alisha to drive.

Scoring Criteria:
The content score is based on the student's ability to explain why the decision Debbie makes is more healthful than allowing Alisha to drive, such as:
· Alisha has been drinking alcohol, and alcohol impairs one's ability to drive safely. Alisha is at a higher risk of being injured or killed in an accident if she drives.
· If Debbie rides with her, Debbie is also putting herself at risk of being injured or killed in an accident.
· There is also a higher risk of someone else (another driver, a pedestrian, etc.) being injured or killed if Alisha drives.
The skill score is based on student's ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health. This may include:
