The CNR Bill Stiles Scholarships

Guidelines for Applicants

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNR International Limited) is offering two Scholarships.

All full time UK/EU students currently in the first year of any single or joint degree in Accountancy are eligible to apply.

The University will award the above scholarships to applicants who have good academic potential, and who are likely to be successful in their chosen degree course. The CNR Scholarships will be awarded to applicants on the basis of academic merit and a passion for their subject.

You should note that only applicants domiciled in the UK or EU, and classified as Home Fees are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Each scholarship is valued at £1,000 per annum and will be awarded to the successful recipient for the full length of their undergraduate degree programme, subject to the recipient successfully completing each academic year. Therefore, students will receive £1,000 per annum for 4 years

(i.e. £4,000 in total).

The scholarship will lapse if the scholarship recipient ceases to study their chosen degree course or leaves the University of Aberdeen. Should a scholarship recipient take a year out, for example, to do a work placement or to pursue other interests, then the scholarship payments will be stopped during this period and will only be resumed when the student returns to study on this course. Where a student is required to repeat a year because they failed to reach the academic requirements, payments will not be paid for the repeat year.

In addition, The CNR Scholarships offer:

- Mentoring

- Provision of an industrially-focussed project for final year project

- CNR will endeavour to offer scholars an interview for summer work placements

The CNR Bill Stiles Scholarships can only be held by students of the University – they cannot be transferred to another institution.

A Scholarship Committee will consider the applications, and make the awards. In making the decision, the selection panel will take into account your educational background and achievements, your interest in your chosen degree subject, and other relevant information

given in your CV, covering letter, application form, and the statement from your referee.

Scholarships are only paid while you are studying at the University of Aberdeen.

How to Apply

Complete the application form, and email it along with a CV, covering letter, and your reference to the contact as listed on the front page of the application form. You will receive correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application.

A Current CV

Make sure you give us your name, address, telephone number and email address for correspondence. You should supply the name of the School, College or other educational institution which you attended prior to studying at the University of Aberdeen, your date of birth, and the degree course you are studying at the University of Aberdeen.

You should summarise the academic (or work-related) qualifications you hold, giving year awarded, type of qualification and subject, and grades achieved.

Please also list positions or work experience held.

The Personal Reference

You will need to provide a supporting Reference. It should be completed by someone who is familiar with your recent studies - or with your intellectual capabilities - whether at the University of Aberdeen, school, college, or in employment. An academic member of staff at the University of Aberdeen (i.e. course lecturer or tutor) would be suitable. Someone from your school or college (normally but not necessarily the Head Teacher or Principal) or someone from your place of work who has a supervisory or managerial role would also be a satisfactory referee; someone in a responsible position who knows you well would be equally appropriate. The form for your Reference should be given to the person you have nominated. The person writing the Reference should give it back to you. It is then your responsibility to ensure that the reference is enclosed with your application.

Please note: If your referee wishes the reference to be confidential from the applicant, then please ask them to email their reference directly to the appropriate contact as listed on the front page of the application form. Please note it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the reference has been submitted.

The Reference provided will form part of the Scholarship selection process. It is helpful if the Referee explicitly deals with the Scholarship Selection criteria and refers to information detailed by the applicant in the Scholarship Application.

Timetable

The completed application form along with your CV, covering letter and Reference should be emailed to the contact listed on the front page of the application form by Wednesday 30 November 2016.

Please note that applications cannot be considered if the reference is not submitted.

If you have any queries not answered by the guidelines above please email the contact listed on the front page of the application form.

Notification of Awards

You will be told whether or not your application has been successful by email by early December 2016.
