Reference: Commercial Banking Internship
Dear Mr. Brown,
As a first year MBA candidate at the Sauder School of Business with a specialization in Finance and Strategic Management, please accept my application for the summer internship position with RBC.
The recent economic downturn in the US and increasingly in Canada has dampened consumer spending and may result in a very challenging business environment. This environment may drive some businesses to postpone potential expansion plans and others to seek financing that will cover cash shortages during market downturns. Prudent analysis and proactive business development can help a bank distinguish between those clients that remain financially sound through troubled times, and those that represent higher levels of risk. It is times like these that prove to be most interesting and offer valuable learning opportunities for young professionals.
During my role as Financial Services Coordinator with the Bank of Montreal, I gained a thorough knowledge of many aspects of the banking industry. This knowledge has been supplemented by my completion of the Canadian Securities Course and current pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Through my MBA training, I have built a competence in developing and maintaining financial models, as well as an understanding of financial statement analysis. My knowledge of these areas and general capability in business is indicated by my academic standing in the top 5% of my class. In particular my abilities are reflected in the successful achievement in the following courses: Corporate Finance (94%), Accounting (90%), Managerial Economics (93%), and Macroeconomics (100%). I also have strong computer literacy attained through my undergraduate degree in Computer Science and subsequent industry experience.
I possess superior leadership abilities and a keen sense of initiative as evidenced by my election into the position of MBA Club President. My skills as a team member and team leader were demonstrated through my work with Microsoft Corporation where I successfully coordinated a team of 5 developers and designers through the use of effective communication and supportive accountability.
I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Canada’s leading chartered bank, while exploring future career possibilities that this internship has to offer. I look forward to discussing this position with you further during an interview.
Sincerely,
Jane Smith
