Who Should Survive?

Scenario: The world is ending! The only place that will continue to sustain life is a mysterious island (think Lost) that the survivors of earth must travel to by boat. Once on the Island, survivors must start a new society, in hopes to repopulate the earth; the only problem is that out of the fifteen people left on earth, only seven of them will fit on the boat. It is the task of the group to decide which seven of the following persons should survive.

1.  Robert Dane: 29, white, no religious affiliation, Ph.D. in history, college professor, good health, married, one child (Bobby), active and enjoys politics.

2.  Stacy Dane: 28, white, Jewish, BA and MA in psychology, counselor in mental health clinic, good health, married, one child (Bobby), active in community.

3.  Bobby Dane: 10, white, Jewish, special education classes for four years, mentally disabled, IQ of 70, good health, enjoys pets.

4.  Maria Garcia: 33, Spanish American, Roman Catholic, 9th grad education, cocktail waitress, good health, married at 16, divorced at 18, abandoned as a child, foster home during teens, attacked by foster father at age 12, ran away from home, returned to reformatory, stayed till 16. One child, 3 weeks old (Jean).

5.  Jean Garcia: 3 weeks old, Spanish American, good health, a nursing baby

6.  Cassie Evans: 32, African American, Baptist, BA and MA in Elementery Education, teacher, divorced, one child (Mary), good health, cited as outstanding teacher of the year, enjoys working with children.

7.  Mary Evans: 8, African American, Baptist, 3rd grade, good health, excellent student.

8.  John Jacobs: 13, white, LDS (Mormon), 8th grade, honor student, very active, broad interests, father is a Mormon bishop.

9.  Todd Newton: 25, African American, good health, claims to be an atheist, started last year in medical school, suspended, seems bitter against racial problems, wears ethnic clothing.

10.  Jaime Clark: 28, Methodist, African American, college graduate in Electrical Engineering, engineer, married, no children, good health, enjoys outdoor sports and computers, grew up in a ghetto.

11.  Sister Kathleen: 27, Jesuit Nun, college graduate as an English major, grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood, good health, father is a businessman.

12.  John Blake: 44, white, Mormon, high school graduate, mechanic, “Mr. Fixit”, married, 4 children good health, enjoys outdoors and working in his shop.

13.  Juanita Harris: 21, Protestant, college senior, nursing major, good health, enjoys sports, likes people.

14.  Father Franz: 37, white, catholic, college plus Catholic Seminary, priest, active in civil right issues, criticized for liberal views, good health, former college athlete.

15.  Dr. Gonzales: 66, Spanish American, Catholic, medical doctor in general practice, has had 2 heart attacks in past five years but continues to practice medicine.
