KingfisherFFA Wins State FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event

STILLWATER, Okla. — Members of the KingfisherFFA Chapter won first-place honors in the State FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event during the 2018 Oklahoma FFA Career Development Events at Oklahoma State UniversityApril 28.

Team memberswereMadelyn Gerken, Victoria Gerken, Jentry Squiresand Bree Taylor.Squires and Taylor earned third- and fourth-place individual honors, respectively. The team will represent Oklahoma in the Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event at the National FFA Convention in October.

Kingfisher agricultural education instructors and FFA advisers are Lori Burns and Ryan Burns.

Livestock judging contests are designed to help students evaluate beef cattle, sheep, goats and swine based on physical characteristics and records for breeding and market usage. The participants also give oral reasons explaining their choices of alignment for certain classes.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources hosted the contest. The L.E. Castle Scholarship Trust, which is sponsored by Farm Credit of Enid,and Tyler and Beth Norvellwill provide a cash award to the team for expenses related to participation in the national contest.Oklahoma Youth Expo provides$1,000 to the high individual.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system.
