STATUS: 4 months contract, extension subject to funding

The overall goal of ARC’s program in Rwanda is to improve the wellbeing and self-reliance of the displaced refugee population from DRC and Burundi by ensuring the provision of basic services (adequate health care & nutrition, shelter, water, sanitation & hygiene, HIV/AIDS prevention & treatment), improving food security and enabling economic recovery in six refugee camps located in Rwanda.

ARC is looking for an experienced, result driven, innovative and highly conscientious individual to join its team in the position of Nutrition Officer. Based at the refugee camp site level, the Nutrition Officer is responsible for support to planning, as well as implementation and monitoring and reporting on nutrition programming at respective assigned camp or site.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaise regularly with Nutrition Technical Coordinator to ensure proper implementation of NEC activities within the camp including but not limited to: selection and training of volunteer nutrition animators, identification and engagement of relevant stakeholders, delivery of awareness raising activities, support to nutrition animators, and monitoring and evaluation;
  • Coordinate and support Nutrition Animators to deliver required activities as per work plan. This includes but is not limited to: setting up community based groups, organizing and delivering community mobilization events such as participatory theater and sports events, identification and celebration of positive role models, engagement of leaders;
  • Liaise with Nutrition Technical Coordinator, Community Health Workers and other partners to ensure harmonized messages across the camp
  • Provide capacity building of Nutrition Animators through regular meetings, supervision and coaching
  • Monitor and review NEC activities in the camp according to pre-determined indicators
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports of NEC activities as per established templates and requirements at the site level
  • Work with logistics team to develop accurate and timely orders and requisitions for the effective delivery of NEC activities. Also, monitor expenditure against budgets at the camp level
  • Support nutritional screening in coordination with site-level Nutrition staff
  • Support the implementation of strategies/action plans to maintain compliance of nutrition activities/goals with national protocols
  • Build the capacity of community animators on identification and treatment malnourished children, pregnant and lactating women at risk of developing malnutrition, and other vulnerable groups
  • Monitoring: compile, submit, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual data from the nutrition sector, support nutrition surveys, analyze survey data and implement action plans based upon nutrition data, supervised by the Nutrition Coordinator
  • When necessary, represent ARC in sector meetings and communicate nutrition information to donors, leadership, government bodies, and coordinating bodies
  • Perform any other duties assigned by ARC Nutrition Coordinator and Site Manager, or any other ARC Senior Manager.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of a recognized Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or a closely related public health field
  • Minimum 4 years’ direct experience implementing nutrition, food security, or related programming with a humanitarian or development agency.
  • Knowledge of nutrition protocols, including SPHERE standards, WHO protocols, and Rwandan MoH Nutrition Protocols
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting nutrition data and writing reports to a high technical standard required.
  • Experience in community health education and mobilization practices and standards required.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda a plus
  • Experience in managing and working with a multicultural staff and communities
  • Ability to motivate and counsel field staff, volunteers and community members, within a complex emergency environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken Kinyarwanda and English required.
