Coordinating or participating in a walking group can have fantastic benefits on your health and well-being of your community.

The City of Nedlands is working with the Heart Foundation to organise free walking groups in your local area. Joining or starting a walking group in your area or workplace is a great way to get active and meet people.You can be involved in a large walking group or can keep your group small by asking a friend or neighbour to walk with you on a regular basis. This one little act can make noticeable differences in your health.

Walking Group benefits

  • It’s free
  • It’s a great way to meet new people and is good for your mental health
  • No special skills or equipment are needed
  • Being part of a group will keep you motivated
  • Numerous positive health benefits including
  • Lower blood sugar
  • Reduces body fat
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improves bone density
  • Improves joint mobility
  • Keeps you ‘regular’
  • Reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke
  • Stress relief

Please note that you should always see your doctor before you begin an exercise program if you have any health concerns.

Every walking group is different – they vary in the number of members, levels of difficulty and meet at a variety of times and days of the week. Everyone is encouraged to walk at their own pace.

Walking Groups in the City of Nedlands

Waratah Walkers

Start and finish at Dalkeith Hall, 97 Waratah Avenue, Dalkeith

Tuesdays 7.30 – 8.15am

All are welcome; however please note this group is paced forover 55’s.

Hollywood Walking Group

Start and finish at the public tennis courts on Smyth Road, Nedlands

Mondays 5.30-6.30pm

All ages and fitness levels welcome

Interested in starting a new Walking Group?

Being a Walk Organiser is fun and easy, and you only need one other person to start a new walking group. You will receive training and support to ensure your walks are safe and enjoyable for all. The registration process is simple so you can start walking as soon as possible. Please call one of the Area Coordinators below to learn how you can start your very own walking group.
