Examples of Classroom Expectations/Rules

REMEMBER: The three main rules are:

BE RESPECTFUL

BE RESPONSIBLE

BE SAFE

You may list your own rules under each of these categories; however, your rules should be “positively” stated. Here are some examples of rules you may want to choose from when creating ones for your classroom (there are many examples worded in different ways to help you decide which ones you like for your classroom.)

BE RESPECTFUL

  • Follow directions of all adults the first time.
  • Be respectful of yourself others and all property.
  • Use tone, voice, and words appropriately.
  • Follow classroom expectations.
  • Treat others, as you would want to be treated.
  • Wait patiently for your turn.
  • Use appropriate language.
  • Use appropriated body language.
  • Work quietly and allow others to work
  • Face the speaker when they are talking.
  • Follow directions.
  • Keeps hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
  • Use school and personal property appropriately.
  • Listen while someone else is talking.
  • Use property as it was intended to be used.
  • Leave others’ belongings aloe.
  • Leave work area clean and neat.
  • Keep our hands to ourselves.
  • Use appropriate, non-offensive vocabulary and gestures.
  • Share and take turns.
  • Be kind to others.
  • Give your peers their personal space.
  • Use inside voices.
  • Use quiet voices.

BE RESPONSIBLE

  • Stay on task and allow others to stay o task.
  • Be on time.
  • Bring all materials.
  • Listen and follow directions (the first time).
  • Take care of classroom materials.
  • Complete class work on time.
  • Return completed homework.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Make sure your appearance is neat and orderly; shoes tied, shirts tucked in, belts fastened, etc.
  • Be a good listener.
  • Complete work assignments.
  • Have homework and supplies.
  • Smile
  • Bring all materials/assignments to class daily.
  • Clean work area before you leave class.
  • Raise your hand to speak.
  • Use your time wisely.
  • Tidy up your work area.
  • Eyes and ears on the teacher during instructional time.
  • Have all necessary materials.
  • Stay in your seat during instructional times.
  • Stay actively engaged.
  • As for help when needed.
  • Take care of materials and workspace.
  • Mind your own business.
  • Organize your own personal belongings and materials.
  • Refrain from bringing toys to school.

BE SAFE

  • Stay in assigned areas.
  • Stay in your assigned seat.
  • Keeps hands and body to yourself at all times.
  • Be in assigned seat/assigned areas.
  • Always be in your teacher’s sight.
  • Walk in the classroom.
  • All interactions will be free of horseplay.
  • Keep personal property to yourself.
  • Keep all objects to yourself.
  • Leave all contraband at home.
  • Keep hands, bodies, and objects to yourself.
