Cal Poly Swimmers Dominate at Invitational

SOUTH GATE, Ca -- The 2011 Finis Collegiate Invitational wrapped up Sunday with Cal Poly dominating the three day event. Both men and women finished in first place. In the 400 yard individual medley, … sophomore Jill Jones rounded out the top three with her time of 4:33.70. Cal Poly women swept the A finals in the 100 yard butterfly taking all eight spots. Senior…., sophomore Rachel Cleak – 3rd (57.85)… the 100 yard backstroke …and freshman Padon Sivesind (1:02.07) finished eighth. Cal Poly women also performed well in the 50 yard freestyle with 6 swimmers finishing in the top ten. Senrior Amy Morales won with a time of 23.81. She was followed by sophomore Jill Jones (23.95)…Freshman Padon Sivesind also made it to the finals.

Katy Yeh - Women's Swimming

PORTLAND, Ore. -Sophomore women’s swimmer Katy Yeh has been selected this week’s L&C Featured Student-Athlete of the Week based on her performance at the Husky Invitational and her contributions to the Lewis & Clark community. “Katy brings a lot of power to our lineup in breaststroke and individual medley events,” said head coach Chris Fantz. “Right now she holds the fourth fastest time in the Northwest Conference in the 400 IM and is ranked sixth in the 200 breaststroke.” At the Husky Invitational on Dec. 2-4, Yeh swam the 200 yard breaststroke preliminaries in 2:32.41 to qualify for the finals, and then finished 31st out of 82 swimmers with a time of 2:33.49.In addition to her swim commitments, Yeh is an Environmental Studies and Biology double major. She is a member of the Asian Student Union (ASU) and has competed in Irish Dancing for the last ten years.
“Katy is a hard-working swimmer and student. Her Environmental Studies keeps her busy each week as she’s juggling a lot of activities, including swim training and her work as a tutor,” said Fantz. Following studying at Lewis & Clark, Yeh plans to go to graduate school for Environmental Science.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (December 4) - The Notre Dame women's swimming and diving squad put together seven top-five finishes to remain in fourth place following day two at the OSU Invitational in Columbus, Ohio… in the 100 YARD FLY - Prelims
Seven Irish swimmers qualified for the 100 fly finals…Courtney Whyte (20th, 57.09). Note: Courtney also swam the 200 fly (2:04.50) and the 500 free (5:04.32).

IOWA CITY, Iowa (December 4)- In its final competition of the calendar year, the Washington State swim team finished fourth at the Hawkeye Invitational, Sunday. Through the three days of competition four Cougars set personal best times:…in the 200 IM junior Shelbi Luchini touched the wall in 2:03.31…Sunday, after the preliminary rounds 12 Cougars advanced to the final rounds: ..Luchini (200 fly – 2:05.17)Note: Luchini also swam the 400 IM in 4:24.96

CAMBRIDGE, Ma (December 3, 2011) - The Tufts women's swimming & diving team posted top-five finishes in five relay events… as the Jumbos placed third out of seven teams at the MIT Invitational on Friday and Saturday… The 200 MR, which swam a time of 1:51.40, included Coniglio, then sophomore Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA), then Greenwald and then Adams. A 4:06.53 time in the 400 medley relay was recorded by Coniglio, Hu, Greenwald and Adams.

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec 4, 2011)– In addition to Andrea Ward (See below) Other OA Alums performed well at the Texas Invitational: Chris Leon placed 30th in the 100 breaststroke (58.73). Chris Peterson placed 7th in preliminaries for the 100 free (43.61), and placed 4th in the 50 free (19.69). The men's 200 free relay team of Chris Peterson, Kevin Kuhn, Garrett Thompson and Kevin Ferguson posted a time of 1:18.27, an NCAA 'B' cut, which was good for a fourth-place finish.

Andrea Ward Posts Third School Record in Three Days

AUSTIN, Texas – Don't mess with Texas? More like 'don't mess with Andrea Ward.' The sophomore swimmer posted her third school record in as many days as the Gauchos closed out action at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday. Ward, who had previously set school records in the 100 butterfly (53.38 – 10th in the event and an NCAA D1 “B” cut) and 200 freestyle (1:48.55) earlier this weekend, posted her third UCSB record in the 200 butterfly. During the morning's preliminaries, she touched the wall in 1:59.40, which was .04 seconds faster than the previous Gaucho best swam by Jennifer Schwalb in 2005. Ward finished 15th in the evening's finals with a time of 1:59.46…

Emory Women Finish Second at Miami Invite

ATLANTA, Ga (December 4, 2011): The Emory University men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2011 portion of its schedule in successful fashion, setting a pair of school records and totaling 27 NCAA 'A' cut times en route to second-place finishes at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational this weekend… Adding 'A' cut times for the women were sophomore Brooke Woodward in the 200 IM (2:04.55) and the 400 IM (4:22.53)…

NEW YORK - The Columbia women's swimming & diving team opened the 2011-12 season with an exciting win over Yale that came down to the last relay. The Lions pulled out the win, 161.5-138.5 in a meet that saw two pool records broken. The meet also saw Columbia women's swimming great Cristina Teucher ‘00CC return to Uris Pool for the first since her collegiate career, as the head coach for Yale.The meet was a close one throughout. In the first swimming event of the meet, the 200 MR team of Katie Meili, Mikaila Gaffey, Caroline Lukins and Stella Zhao came in first overall, with a new pool record time of 1:44.06…The Bulldogs gained some ground in the 200 butterfly, placing first and third, while sophomore Caroline Lukins came in second with a time of 2:05.68…

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Pacific swim teams concluded the 2011 Arena Invitational Saturday, November 19, behind some solid individual performances at Belmont Olympic Pool. The Tigers had four men's swimmers earn berths in the final heats of the 200 Breast. Senior Roger Ward led the group with a 14th-place finish behind a time of 2:06.33…The men's 400 IM finals saw three other Tigers swim strong races as senior Roger Ward took 21st with a time of 4:06.16.

STOCKTON, CA. - The Pacific men's swim team had a day for the record books Saturday, November 5, defeating Air Force, Cal State Bakersfield, and Seattle U in a quad meet at Kjeldsen Pool. The Tigers outscored reigning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion Cal State Bakersfield 153-108 and crushed both Air Force and Seattle U by scores of 166-96 and 157-105, respectively. "Our men's team had an incredible showing today," interim head coach Gus Barrios said. "I don't believe we have defeated three teams in one day in quite a while, if ever, and our dual-meet win total is already higher than last year's." Senior Roger Ward's time of 1:56.23 in the 200 IM was also good for second..

Gauchos Sweep San Diego in Dual Meets

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UCSB swim and dive teams posted a pair ofdual meet victories over visiting UC San Diego on Friday afternoon atCampus Pool. The men came from behind to edge out the Tritons, 154-140and the women posted a 173-127 win.… the UCSB ŒA‚ relay team of Kevin Ferguson,Garrett Thompson, Chris Peterson and Andrew Latimer took first in1:22.50 to seal up the Gaucho win…Andrea Ward led the way for the Gauchos, winning three individualevents. She began with a win in the 200 free (1:51.73), captured firstin the 100 free (52.20) and then rounded out her program with topfinish in the 500 free (5:04.51).

BERKELEY, Calif. (Nov 4) - In a Pac-12 dual meet, the Washington State swim team was defeated by California, the defending NCAA Champion, Friday…The undefeated Golden Bears outscored the Cougars 160-89. With the loss, Washington State fell to 0-4 in dual meets this season. "We swam really well," Cougar Head Coach Tom Jager said. "It was really cool and somewhat intimidating to swim against the number one team in this country, but our team held their own. They didn't give up and they didn't give in. They swam well all the way through the very last race." Junior Shelbi Luchini earned Washington State's top scoring honors, bringing in 12 individual points. Luchini scored points in the 200 fly (2:07.67), 200 breast (2:29.61) , and 200 IM (2:1016).
SAN LUIS OBISPO (Nov 5)…Cal Poly Women defeat UCSB Gauchos in Dual Meet..Mustangs earning single-event wins include ….and Rachel Cleak in the 100 freestyle (52.25). Morales and Cleak also teamed with Andrea Voigt and Jill Jones to win the final event, the 400 freestyle relay in 3:29.56.
ATLANTA, GA (Nov 11-12)
Competing at the Woodruff P.E. Center for the first time in almost a month, the Emory University swimmers totaled 12 NCAA 'B' cut times and nine first-place finishes at the Emory Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Facing some of the top club teams in the Atlanta area, the Emory men totaled 1,324 points, while the women scored 1,198.5 points, each claiming a first-place finish in the team standings…performances for the Emory women came from freshman Michelle York (4:34.26) and sophomore Brooke Woodward (4:34.38) in the 400 IM…
