Portfolio of Evidence
HTM@UCT Nov 2013
INTRODUCTION
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Admission Requirements
The requirement for this portfolio stems from the fact that some applicants do not have the required formal educational qualifications as outlined in the Faculty of Health Sciences Student Hand Book (HEQF level 6). If such applicants believe that their age and experience has provided them with equivalent levels of learning, they may apply for admission through the “RPL for access”process. The purpose of this is to facilitate access for people who do not have the necessary entrance qualification.
This requires that each candidate applicant submit a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) – see below. Some of the evidence/information requiredwas submitted as part of the First Contact Questionnairebut will have to be re-entered in the appropriate section/s of this document.
In addition, all RPL applicants must write the National Benchmark Test (NBT); this must be arranged by the applicants themselves and must be writtenprior to (preferably at least 2 months) the commencement of the on-site Block.
Portfolio of Evidence
What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is a ‘collection of evidence, usually in written form, of both the products and processes of learning. The portfolio attests to achievements, personal and professional development, by providing critical analysis of its contents’. [1]
What is its purpose?
A portfolio enables practitioners to monitor their professional development of competencies and provide evidence of what has been accomplished to meet professional and personal learning needs, progress in achieving career goals and where further learning is needed.[2]
What counts as evidence?
Evidence is required to show where, when and how practice outcomes, learning objectives and proficiencies have been achieved within the last 5 years. The following are some materials to be collected for your portfolio of evidence (information captured in Sections 1-5 below):
