2009 FACES West Scholarship Information

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

This award is intended for graduating High School Seniors who plan to pursue a college degree from a 2 or 4-year College or University within the United States.

Two (2) studentswillbe individually awarded a one-time scholarship for $1,000.00.

Scholarship award should be used for the funding of educational goals.

*In an event of a 2-way tie, the Scholarship Committee will have the final decision on how to allocate the fund distribution amongst the recipients.

II. ELIGIBILITY

Students must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the 2009 FACES West Scholarship:

  • Graduating High School Senior
  • Resident of California or Nevada
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Active in the community

III. AWARD CRITERIA

The 2009 FACES West Scholarship Committee will consist of three (3) FACES West Executive Board members (officers and advisors) who will execute a fair and equitable selection process that is based on a candidate’s entire application package.

Areas of consideration will include:

  • Academic achievements
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Work experience
  • Personal goals and ambitions
  • Letter of Recommendation (can be from school administrators, teachers, mentors, or other community leaders that know you)
  • A one-page essay entitled, “The One Ideal That Will Identify My Generation”(see section VI of the application form for more detailed requirements).

IV. TIMELINE

V. STUDENT PROFILE

Include a copy of your resume illustrating any certificates/awards/honors/significant achievements or accomplishments in the past four years (student government, sports, music, hospital, and any other civic or religious volunteer activities). Include the years of involvement with each affiliated organization. List and describe student’s work experience and accomplishments. Include a statement of short and long term goals and aspirations.

  1. Original completed application form.
  2. A copy of your resume (from section V: Student Profile).
  3. A copy of your SATI, SATII, PSAT, or ACT results (unofficial copy would suffice).
  4. A copy of your most recent college or high school transcript with GPA.
  5. A one page Letter of Recommendation (can be from school administrators, teachers, mentors, or other community leaders that know you).
  6. A one-page essay entitled: “The One Ideal That Will Identify My Generation ”
  • Limit your essay to no more than 1000 words. No smaller than double-spaced 10pt font (Times New Roman or Arial).
