BARROW and DISTRICT TWINNING ASSOCIATION

PROGRAMME FOR VISITORS FROM MARANS and their HOSTS - JUNE 25th to 30th 2015

THURSDAY 25th June – Hosts to collect visitors from coach at about 8.30 pm., probably from outside Humphrey Perkins School, Cotes Road. Hosts will receive a telephone call from Kathryn to notify them of more precise time.

FRIDAY 26TH June – Morning with hosts. 1.30 pm – meet at the Newtown Linford Car Park entrance to Bradgate Park for a guided tour of the park which will commence at 1.45 pm.

5.00 pm Parish Council reception in the Community Room, Humphrey Perkins School.

Evening meal with families in groups formed by hosts – list to be circulated.

SATURDAY 27th June – Visit to the Ferrer’s Centre, Staunton Harold and then Calke Abbey. Travel by cars. Arrive at Ferrer’s Centre Car Park at 10.30/ 11.00 a.m. There are a lot of craft shops in Ferrer’s Centre and nearby is a garden centre. Hosts provide picnic lunch which can be eaten on the side of the lake at Staunton Harold if the weather is OK. Meet at the lake at 11.45/12.00 to picnic together. Refreshments are also available in the Ferrer’s centre. If the weather is poor then we will go to Calke earlier and eat there.

Leave the Ferrer’s Centre car park by 1.00 pm to meet in the Car Park at Calke Abbey no later than 1.30 p.m. On arrival at Calke Abbey drivers should tell the attendant that they are with the Barrow Twinning Association Party, here for a tour which will commence at 2.00 p.m. This is a timed entry. A group booking will be made for the visitors and for those Twinning Association members who request this. See booking form below

SATURDAY 7.00 p.m. – drinks reception at The Quorn Exchange Restaurant, High Street, Quorn, before the evening meal which will be served at 7.30 p.m. A vegetarian option will be available – please indicate on the booking form if you wish to order this. If you have specific dietary requirements please specify on the booking form.

SUNDAY28th June – 10.00 a.m. until around noon - visit four gardens in Barrow – see separate sheet for visitor groups and gardens to visit.

1.30 p.m. meet at the Abbey Pumping Station, Leicester – Open Day. Entry fees for visitors and hosts will be paid for by the Association.

4.30 p.m. Cream Tea at Richard and Sylvia Steane’s home, 5 Ribble Drive

Early evening - some of our visitors may wish to see part of a cricket match, probably in Sileby, before evening meal with hosts in groups as arranged.

MONDAY29th June – Visit Lincoln in cars. Meet at the Park and Ride car park off the A.46 at the Whisby Garden Centre off Teal Park roundabout 10.00 a.m. Bus ride to the Castle and Museum. Hosts to take guests around Lincoln and take lunch before meeting at 2.00 p.m. outside the Booking Office at the Castle Museum for a guided tour. See booking form.

Expected time of return to Barrow is around 5.00 pm

MONDAY EVENING – social gathering at the home of Peter and Tilley Yates, 11A Nottingham Road, Barrow, from 7.30pm onwards. Everyone is requested to bring drinks and some food to share (ready to be easily served – e. g. finger food). Please indicate on the booking form what food you think you will bring.

TUESDAY30th June – Coach will take visitors to Stanstead. Coach leaves Barrow from Beaumont Road at or soon after 9.00 am to be at Stanstead by noon for flight departure at 2.05 pm.

It is expected that our French guests will attend all of the arranged activities. You do not need to include them in the numbers on the booking form. All costs for the French guests for the arranged programme will be paid for from the Twinning Association funds. Some of the costs for hosts will also be paid for by the Twinning Association.

Entry to Calke Abbey for tour of the whole premises at special group rate will cost hosts/members £11.00 per adult, £5.50 under 16s. National Trust members free. There are three options for hosts, members and friends:-
