The regular meeting of the Northern Kentucky Firefighters Association was called to order by President Greg Buckler with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. Chief Jeff Barlow welcomed everyone, went over some house keeping and offered tours of the station. Rick Messingschlager made a motion to accept the minutes as sent. Dave Jansing 2nd the motion. Motion passed. Ken Knipper made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read. Terry Keller 2nd the motion. Motion passed. Dave Jansing made a motion to pay the bills as read. Steve Rath 2nd the motion. Motion passed. Assistant Chief Baumann brought the new Command vehicle, which is stationed at Florence, to the meeting for everyone to go through. If you need it in your area call Boone dispatch and they will have someone bring it to you and set it up. It will be your responsibility to run/work it. When you are finished someone from Florence will come back and pick it up. It is available to everyone for long-term incident or planned events.

President’s Report

President Buckler reported on the April 8th luncheon. As a result of this brainstorming meeting the minutes will now be emailed. We will be developing a website. Rick Herzog made a motion that we spend not more than $500.00 on start up fees. Rick Messingschlager 2nd the motion. Motion passed. The last thing on the survey was incentives to up the attendance at meetings. We will start having something special at each meeting. I.e. Mobile Command Unit, TRT For the next two meetings we will change the timing of the meetings. We will eat at 7:00 p.m. and start the meeting at 7:30 p.m. This will be a trial run to see if it works out and everyone likes the change.

President Buckler congratulated Bill Birkle on his new position as the KCTCS Area 7 Coordinator.

Secretary’s Report

Since we will now be emailing the minutes if you currently do not receive emails from Monica see me after the meeting with your email address.

Treasurer’s Report

The associate members that still owe dues list has been given to the secretary and she will follow up on this.

KFA President

President John Daley sent in a report because he was unable to join us. The report stated that he was requesting that the association to donate $400.00 to the hospitality room at State Fire School. Terry Keller made a motion that when fire school is over and all the bills are paid and then if the $400.00 is still needed we will help them out then. Joe Eggemeier 2nd the motion. Motion passed.

Legislative

Howdy’s report was reviewed.

Public Education

The pub ed committee will have a class at State Fire School. It is a one-day class offered on two different days. Joe Stambush will be representing KY in Las Vegas at the NFPA conference. There is a meeting at the Behringer/Crawford Museum concerning the fire/ems exhibit on Thursday May 29th at 5:00 p.m. The Firefighter/EMT of the month of May was John Daley. The Firefighter/EMT of the month of June is Wanda Issac. We need to get more nomination forms in ASAP. Monica will send them out again via email or you can see Joe Stambush.

Regional Fire School

There is a meeting on June 3rd. The attendance was down this year. The 2009 school will be held on the same weekend at the same place,

OEM

Safer grants opened today. Ken Knipper will be meeting with the new heads of Homeland Security.

Mutual Aid

The committee is encouraging everyone to get on the same page with accountability. The Velcro on the boards should be “hard”. The Velcro on the tags should be “soft”. Currently looking into pricing for tags.

Awards Banquet

The committee is looking into making some minor changes.

EMS

On the national level the EMS advisory board had a brainstorming session and came up with 84 areas within 7 categories. There will be a July and October meeting. If you have any ideas get with Ken Knipper. The Work Place Health and Safety is developing plans to make the work place safer. EMS education standards are out. Please review and bring ideas to Ken so they can be presented before it is finalized.

2008 Conference

Ad’s need to get in now. Reservations need to get in now for the hotel because it is booking up fast. Registrations need to get in now. The regional Olympics will be held at Villa Madonna on July 19th. State Olympics will be August 2nd. The delegate and deceased forms have been sent out. Also any department with a flag that would like it in the memorial please bring it. June 5th is the next meeting at Southgate at 7:00 p.m. Still in need of patches from down state for a quilt. See Rick Hopple.

Memorial

Paul Uebel met with Tim Rolf concerning a memorial for Chief Atwell. Proposal was passed out and one is attached to the official minutes. Ken Knipper made a motion to proceed with the proposal. Dave Jansing 2nd the motion. Terry Keller proposed an amendment that we should see if Louisville is willing to contribute to this memorial. Joe Eggemeier 2nd the motion. A vote was taken on the amendment. Motion passed. A vote was taken on the original motion. Motion passed. Paul Uebel will be in contact with Louisville.

Historical

The committee is working on getting the past officers updated. If you have any info to help this along please see Bill Leslie or Monica Rath.

Olympics

The regional competition will be held at John Braun field on July 19th. Please encourage your department to put a team in, we need a good showing. All teams in the regional will go to state.

New Business

KFA officers up for re election are Dave Jansing for Secretary and Our area director Bud Lederer. Dave Jansing made a motion that we keep Bud Lederer as our Director. Daryl Tepe 2nd the motion. Motion passed. Joe Stambush made a motion that we send a letter of support for Dave Jansing. Rick Messingschlager 2nd the motion. Motion passed. Dave is in his 18th year as Secretary. Monica Rath will send the letters.

Good and Welfare

New single and duplex housing will require newly approved safety plugs. All major fire agencies are now on board to see what can be done about the IRS taxing absolutely everything. Special thanks went out to the TRT team for their help in a “man fell in a water tower” incident. President Greg Buckler presented Ernie Biddle with a lifetime membership and a gift certificate due to his recent retirement. Congratulations went out to Coach Edmondson and his team. They defeated the police AGAIN. On June 19th the Kenton Co. drill field will be renamed the Charles E. Weiholter Drill Field. The reception will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Paul Uebel made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Keith Kallmeyer 2nd the motion. Motion passed. The next meeting will be held on June 24th at Butler Community Center (the old fire house). The meal will be at 7:00 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
