The National Association of Colleges and Universities Residence Halls (NACURH) is an international, student-run organization founded to connect residential students, provide resources and share ideas of best practices among college campuses. NACURH governs eight regions across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Central Atlantic Association of Colleges and Universities Residence Halls (CAACURH) is the affiliate region in which colleges and universities within the state of Ohio belong to, including the University of Dayton. For more information, please visit

There are 45 colleges and universities in the state of Ohio that are connected to the region and nationally through their recognized campus chapter of housing and residence life governance. Under the guidance of Housing & Residence Life, in spring 2014, the University of Dayton will re-charter its chapter, referred to as UD’s Residential Housing Association (RHA).

RHA Purpose Statement:

To support and enhance the residential experience at the University of Dayton

Guided by our Catholic and Marianist traditions, we will achieve this purpose by:

Serving as a forum for the concerns, issues, and voices of the residents to campus stakeholders, creating programs and engagement opportunities that foster community among and within the residential areas, and providing opportunities for students to explore and develop their personal and professional leadership philosophies.

Qualifications for Appointment:

  • Applicant must submit all materials by noted deadline
  • Applicant must interview with RHA steering committee (you will be contacted in mid-March regarding interview times)
  • Upon appointment, executive board members must:
  • be full-time undergraduate students and currently reside on-campus
  • be at least incoming 2nd year/sophomore in class standing
  • have prior university service and leadership experience
  • a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 upon appointment
  • be in good disciplinary standing (cannot serve if on disciplinary probation)
  • have a strong desire to advocate for residents at the University of Dayton
  • be willing to serve the Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) in various ways
  • Executive board members are not permitted to hold a Resident Assistant or Fellow position simultaneously
  • Executive board members may not have outside employment exceeding 10 hours/week

Benefit(s):

RHA executive board members will receive a monetary stipend and travel opportunities

2014-2015 RHA Executive Board Position Descriptions:

President:

-Provide the overall direction and leadership to RHA

-Preside over all executive board and general body meetings

-Serve as official spokesperson for RHA

-Direct creation and/or appointments of positions within organization

-Prepare and distribute the agenda for every general assembly and executive board meeting

-Conduct mid-year evaluations of the executive board members

-Create or draft the end of year report

-Execute and uphold all provisions and bylaws of the RHA constitution

-Oversee and provide training and professional development to the executive board with the assistance of the advisor

-Maintain regular communication with other executive board members, RHA advisor, and general assembly

-Attend and assist with preparation for state, regional and national conferences

Vice-President of Residential Affairs**:

-Serves as chief officer on all policy and advocacy matters

** For the 2014-2015 academic year, SGA will elect a Vice President for Residential Affairs that will then be appointed to RHA. This person would have 50% - 50% responsibilities to the 2 organizations with voting privileges in both.For the 2015-2016 academic year, both SGA and RHA will hold elections and the VPRA position will transition to and be elected through RHA. Their responsibilities will be 75% - 25% RHA to SGA. They would have voting membership in both RHA and SGA from that point on and the 25% that this person has to SGA will be to work with the commuter relations person to represent their interests to SGA.**

-Serve as the liaison and voting member of SGA, representing RHA interests to SGA

-Provide the residential student perspective and feedback, as requested, on new policies and policy matters to University and Department leadership

-Maintain communication between SGA, university administrators/committees and councils with student residential concerns

-Serve as parliamentarian during executive board and general assembly meetings

-Provide report of SGA meeting minutes to executive board and general assembly members

-Collaborate and consult with RHA advisor and President surrounding any coordination of communication with University leadership and/or stakeholders

-Other duties as assigned by SGA

Vice-President of Finance:

-Serve as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for RHA

-Handle all financial transactions for RHA

-Maintain ledgers and associated records of departmental budgets and spending within the organization and department

-With the assistance of Department of Housing and Residence leadership and advisor, determine and dispense overall and hall council budgets

-Prepare monthly spending report and share with executive board and RHA leadership

-Coordinate business and communicate with corporate partners, local businesses and sponsors and other members of the university community

-Explore and coordinate all fundraising opportunities

Vice-President of Public Relations:

-Responsible for general correspondence for RHA whether by mail, phone or email

-Coordinate all venues and reservations for RHA

-Responsible for taking detailed minutes at the meetings including the log of all motions and proposals

-Responsible for updating the RHA website, calendar and social media

-Works closely with executive board to publicize and create awareness of all major campus wide events as well as the goals and purpose of RHA

-Responsible for coordinating the creation and distribution of all banners, posters and fliers for large scale programming

-Collaborate with Director of Communications and Community Relations of Student Development for any external branding and/or promotion of RHA

-Serve as chair for executive board and area council application process

-Serve as RHA contact, along with the President, to University Leadership

-Assist in the maintenance of the PR budget in collaboration with the Vice President for Finance

Vice-President of Community Development:

-Plan all annual events and/or banquets or liaise with campus-wide event partners and organizations as necessary

-Establish expectations for area council programming

-Serve as a consultant for area council programming

-Select and chair groups responsible for campus-wide RHA programming events and liaise with other student organizations and/or campus ministry as necessary

-Serve as organizer and facilitator of RHA recognition and social events

-Assist in the maintenance of the programming budget in collaboration with the Vice President for Finance

-Collaborate with VP of Finance when communicating with outside vendors, businesses and resources for the purpose of large-scale events

-Coordinate with the VP of Public Relations for all advertising and publicity for RHA events

National Communications Coordinator (NCC):

-Maintain the affiliation and communication with national and regional offices

-Ensure that UD chapter maintains good standing with national and regional office

-Attend all state, regional and national conferences

-Utilize NACURH and CAACURH resources and train executive board and general assembly on those resources

-Be responsible for preconference materials, arrangements and communication

-Prepare documents, select delegation, ensure adequate finances, and plan logistics for conference attendance

-Serve as a liaison for NRHH in the event of an on-campus presence

-Prepare and coordinate bid-proposals

-Collaborate with Vice President for Finance on all fundraising and/or philanthropic coordination
