Marketing Co-ordinator, St Barnabas Hospices

Responsible to

Head of Communications & Donor Marketing

Principal contacts

(a) Internal: Fundraising and marketing staff, Retail, care teams at both hospices and all other staff and volunteers including CEO, SMT and Trustees.

(b) External: Suppliers including agencies, printers and mailing houses. Media, including print, radio and television. Supporters of St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House, including individuals,groups and companies.

Environment

The post is based at St Barnabas House adult hospice in Worthing with some visits to Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice near Arundel and involves work across East and West Sussex.

Job purpose

To be responsible for the Marketing and Communications function in the delivery of the hospices’ communications, press, PR and marketing activity.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  1. Work closely with the Head of Communications & Donor Marketing to input into strategic planning and take responsibility for the delivery of effective marketing and PR activities for St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House.
  2. Deliver marketing, communications and PR for the hospices to ensure maximum possible impact from the available marketing budget and to raise awareness of the hospices and their services.
  3. Co-ordinate the production of materials for all hospice teams (design and print).
  4. Compile, write and disseminate messages and promotions for the hospices’ activities.
  5. Provide PR support for new and existing events and campaigns.
  6. Source information for press releases and PR opportunities; prepare, send out and follow up press releases, organisation of photo opportunities, press launches, etc.
  7. Provide independent press office function including dealing with incoming media enquiries.
  8. Maintain and develop current local media contacts list, with particular emphasis on developing new online and offline media contacts in this area.
  9. Monitor press cuttings and circulate.
  10. Maintain photo library including updating permissions.
  11. Organise internal distribution of publications, newsletters, noticeboards, posters etc.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Experience

Good standard of general education to at least A-level or equivalent

3+ years’ proven experience of Marketing Communications, including working to project budgets.

3+ years of proven experience of PR and media relations.

Specialist knowledge of content management systems, social media, web development and graphics solutions.

Specialist knowledge of email marketing

Excellent communication skills

Print and production management experience.

Demonstrable experience of meeting significant activity targets and self-managing projects.

Experience of wider marketing and communication techniques.

Desirable

Degree level education

Certificate in Marketing (CIM)

PR and communications qualification

Charity marketing experience

Experience of working with volunteers
