- Always check for hazards related to the environment and equipment (e.g., UV exposure,wildlife encounters,changing weather conditions).

- Wear appropriate PPE (e.g., high-visibility jacket or vest in wilderness situations; protective footwear with non-slip soles; plastic or polycarbonate safety glasses; long-sleeve, tightly woven clothes).
- Use universal precautions when there is risk of exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Prevent unnecessary strain or injury by ensuring your pack is not too heavy and is adjusted properly.
- Be prepared to stay overnight in all wilderness situations.
- Identify, handle, store, or dispose of any hazardous materials using WHMIS regulations.
- Know the location of the MSDS for thematerials being used.
- Do not use any tools or equipment unless you have been properly trained and can demonstrate the safe use, operation, and shutdown procedures.
