AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HEATHER GORE, A TEACHER AT THOMAS SUMTER ACADEMY, UPON BEING NAMED THE 2014 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION LOWER SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR, AND TO EXTEND SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Heather Gore was named the 2014 Teacher of the Year by the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA); and

Whereas, after earning a bachelor’s in elementary and kindergarten education from The Pennsylvania State University, Heather Goretaught for seven years at Hillcrest Middle School in Sumter County, where she was named Teacher of the Year for 20042005; and

Whereas, for the last eight years, she has taught at Thomas Sumter Academy and currently teaches fourth and fifthgrade; and

Whereas, in addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Gore serves as the organizer and promoterof a character education program in the lower school, coordinator of the geography bee, coordinator of the Christmas Shop Service Project, and assistant coordinator of the school’s Battle of the Books; and

Whereas, her love of reading serves as a meaningful example of the importance of lifelong learning to her students; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gore was selected as the SCISA 2014 Lower School Teacher of the Year from a large pool of teachers across the Palmetto State who serve in a number of independent and private schools; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband Jamie Gore, she is rearing two fine children, and they are faithful members of Concord Presbyterian Church, where she is a children’s church teacher; and

Whereas, Thomas Sumter Academy Head of School Debbie Nix understands that teaching is a labor of love for Heather Gore; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor Heather Gore for demonstrating the personal and professional qualities that help mold South Carolina’s youth into successful future leaders of their communities and of our great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honorHeather Gore, upon being named the 2014 South Carolina Independent School Association Lower School Teacher of the Year, and extend sincere appreciation for her outstanding contributions to education in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided toHeather Gore.
