Sharing and Caring Hands at 525 North 6th Street, Minneapolis 55405, 612.338.4640 offer a free meal on Thanksgiving day from 10:00 to Noon.

Union Gospel Mission Twin Citiesis located at 77 East 9th Street, St. Paul 55101, 651.228.1800 Registration for Thanksgiving Baskets will be at 435 East University Avenue in St. Paul on October 29th, 30th and 31st, and on November 5th, 6th and 7th, from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. Bring a photo ID and a current piece of US mail to accommodate the registration. Only one basket is allowed per address please. Registration MUST be done in person. Basket Distribution is on November 25th and 26th at the same location. The Basilica of St. Maryis located at 88 North 17th Street, Minneapolis 55403, 612.333.1381 Beginning on Tuesday, November 4th and continuing through Wednesday, November 5thand Thursday, November 6th, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. The first 50 families each day can register for a Cub Foods Gift Card, which will then be distributed on Saturday, November 23rd. Recipients must be residents of Minneapolis, with a child under 18 years of age living with them. U.S. mail will be required as proof of residency along with a picture ID to be able to qualify. A social security card, medical I.D. card or birth certificate is required as identification for the children. The process will be held in the Outreach Ministry portion of the Basilica. Winter Holiday Toys
Christmas With Dignity(via Hospitality House Youth Development) is location at 1220 Logan Avenue North, Minneapolis 55411, 612.522.4485 Pre-registration is on Saturday, November 2nd and again on Saturday, November 9th from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required to shop on Sale Day Friday, December 13th. To qualify for pre-registration, the parent will need to provide a photo ID and an original birth certificate for each of the children. If the current residential address does not match the photo ID, a current utility bill, with the new address, will be asked for. NOTE: Hospitality House Youth Development also runs an Urban Learning Program for students K-12. There is transportation available for some neighborhood schools. The program runs from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Individual academic coaching and small group coaching is available. The Salvation Army Emergency Toy Shop The Toy Shop registration hotline651.746.3595 opens on Monday, November 4th at 9:00 a.m. Phone lines will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. through Friday, December 5th. You can also register at After December 5th, callers will be referred to the “Emergency Overflow Toy Shop” on Saturday, December 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Winter Holiday Food
Operation Holiday Basketis a joint program between the Hiawatha YMCA and Roosevelt High School. The program has been giving families in South Minneapolis Christmas Holiday dinners for 40 years. If you are part of a family in need you must make a formal request starting November 29thby contacting the South Minneapolis Y at 612-728-7620. These baskets will be distributed on December 20th from 11-2. There is a limited supply.

612.870.9617 Doors open on Christmas Eve Wednesday, December 24that 4:30 p.m. for a service that runs from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. for families with children. Food and Clothing Resources
Salvation Army at 2024 Lyndale Avenue North, Minneapolis 55411, 612.522.4871 and 1019 Payne Avenue, St. Paul 55101, 651.776.8169. The food shelf is open from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. This is on a first come, first served basis in that the doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the first 15 people in line will be served. Then the door is closed. The same for the 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. time slot; doors open at 1:00 p.m. and the first 20 people in line, before the food runs out, will be served. You will have to show picture ID’s for yourself and your children, plus U.S. mail verifying your address. Contact the Salvation Army closest to your home for services provided as they all seem to be a little different. Free evening meals are served nightly at Harbor Lights in Minneapolis.
Coat distribution sites will be open from 10:00 a.m., until supplies run out, on Tuesday, October 29th. All items will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis. Eligibility Requirements: Families with dependent children ages 0-17 qualify for the coat program. Parents must bring their own photo ID and a current piece of mail confirming the residential zip code. Parents must also bring one form of ID for each child (i.e. medical card, social security card, birth certificate, and/or school ID). Copies of the children’s ID are acceptable.

The address, phone number, and the caller’s needs are noted and then the United Way representative offers the name(s) of organizations for the caller to contact. The information requested is generally for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
