Dressage and Showjumping Series Guidelines

Aim: To promote a consistent standard of competition within the Zone and to encourage clubs to organise and run events.

Competition Requirements:

  • Competitions are to be run under PCAV rules and open to all PCAV graded riders from any zone.
  • Competitions may include open riders on the entry form if a day attendance form is completed and if covered by insurance.
  • Event date must be approved bythe Zone Secretary.
  • Entry forms must be sent to the Zone Secretary who will forward them to the Zone Rep. or their Assistant, for approval before they can be published.
  • The Series Sponsor – Skye Park - must be named on all entry forms.
  • Competition standard is to be consistent with that of a State Qualifying Event; dressage tests should be the harder ones in each grade, Show Jumping events should show some height increase over the competition.
  • All riders should be placed in order, down to the last placed competitor so that riders can have their points updated on the leader board.
  • Grade 3 dressage arenas must be 60m x 20m.
  • All judges, both Dressage and Show Jumping, and Course Designer/Builder must be EA Accredited or approved by the West Gippsland Zone.

Series Requirements:

  • Series placings are to 6th place with the overall winner in each grade receiving a Skye Park Trophy Rug.
  • Series Leader Board scoringhas been changed for 2016. The winner of any class will receive 21 points, then 19 points for second place, 18 points for third, 17 points for fourth etc, regardless of how many competitors are in the class. All competitors will be given points unless there are more than 20 in the event, in which case, the last placed riders will not receive points on the leader board. Eliminated riders will not receive points for the event in which they were eliminated, but may in the other event, and this will still go towards their series total.
  • Clubs must submit to the Zone Secretary, their competition results with copies of their original Show Jumping score sheets including the Judge’s name and signature, within 7 days.
  • Results sheets for dressage and a selection of tests must be sent to the Zone Secretary within 7 days.

Series Placing Guidelines:

  • A rider may compete in as many Series competitions as are available.
  • To be eligible for a Series placing, competitors must ride in at least 3 Series events throughout the year. WGZ Series Sashes will only be awarded to riders who have attended at least 3 Series events.
  • The best 4 performances (or all, if less than 4 competitions in the series), will be used to determine the placegetters of each grade in each discipline – the rationale for this decision is that not every rider will be able to attend all of the series competitions
  • To be eligible to be included in the Series Leader Board, the rider must ride two dressage tests, or two show jumping events at the WGZ series competition.

Rider Qualification for State Selection:

  • West Gippsland Riders (Grade PA, PB, PC and Gr 1, Gr 2, Gr3) competing in the Series are eligible for selection to represent WGZ at the PCV State Dressage and Show Jumping Championships.
  • If a rider attends a State Qualifier competition that falls on their rally day, it can be counted as a rally until the rider has met the state selection application requirements (of 3 qualifiers).
  • A rider must compete in a minimum of 3 of the advertised Series competitions, to nominate for Zone Selection. PA and Gr1 are exempt from the 3 competitions rule if they have EA performances, although it is recommended that they support their zone clubs by entering where possible. They may use EA performances in Dressage and Show Jumping as part of their competition log.
  • Nominations must be on the official nomination form and be accompanied by a log, or record, of performances. Official log sheets are available from the zone web site.
  • A copy of a rider’s PC membership card showing rally attendance should be attached to the State Nomination form.
  • Riders14 years or older must have attained their C Certificate before competing at State level. (Unless they have been a member for less than 2 years).
  • A combination’s 3 best performances will be used for selection.
  • Nominations are due to the Zone Rep. by the 31st of December.

West Gippsland Zone Team Selection for PCAV State Dressage and Show Jumping:

  • Teams will be selected by a selection panel which will consist of the Zone Rep, Zone Chief Instructor, Executive member/s and other experienced people as required.
  • The selection criteria is based on: a rider’s performance log, evidence of participating in WG Zone Series events (PA & Gr1 WGZ & EA events), consistency, pony club attendance, and the rider’s conduct throughout the year.
  • Dressage teams have 3 riders and Show Jump teams have 4 riders. Reserves will be selected in case of scratchings.
