Monday----Topic 2 Lesson 2-10: Connecting Models and Symbols

Objective: Students will write and identify different subtraction sentences that are true for the same model.

Vocabulary: same amount

Teacher will review Lesson 2-9 and introduce today’s lesson 2-10 with computer CD topic 2 Lessons 9 and 10.

  1. Daily Common Core Review worksheet 2-10: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review the concepts: writing numbers, modeling addition situations, and modeling subtraction situations.
  2. Develop the Concept: Interactive: Teacher will use counters to provide students whose Popsicle stick name is drawn out the opportunity to help explore the meaning of equals in the context of subtraction sentences and the number sentence can begin or end with the difference. Follow directions at the bottom of sheet.
  3. Develop the Concept: Visual: Teacher will discuss the tops of worksheets 78-79 to model how to write and identify different subtraction sentences that are true for the same model. Also, class will work together on problems on worksheet pages 78-80 to answer questions posed on teacher’s guide these pages and to develop the concept. Reteaching 2-10 and Enrichment 2-10 worksheets will be discussed and worked through also.
  4. Independent Practice: Students will complete Practice worksheet 2-10. This will be checked and rechecked until students have correct answers.
  5. Formative Assessment: Students will complete Quick Check 2-10 worksheet.

Tuesday---Topic 2 Lesson 2-11: Problem Solving: Act It Out

Objective: Students will use counters to act out and solve subtraction story problems.

Common Core Standards: 1.OA.1, 1.OA.6

Teacher will review Lesson 2-10 and introduce today’s lesson with computer CD topic 2 lesson 10 and 11.

  1. Daily Common Core Review worksheet 2-11: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review the concepts: ordering numbers, modeling addition situations, and writing number sentences.
  2. Develop the Concept: Interactive: Teacher will use 2 sided color counters to provide students whose Popsicle stick names are drawn out the opportunity to use counters to model and solve subtraction story problems. 1. There are 9 children playing inside. 3 of them go outside. How many are left inside. 2. Bill has 6 fish and Lia has 4 fish. How many more fish does Bill have? 3. 7 children were on the playground. 4 of them went home. How many children were left on the playground?
  3. Develop the Concept: Visual: Teacher will discuss the tops of worksheets 82 and 83 to model how to use counters to act out and solve subtraction story problems. Also, class will work together on problems on worksheet pages 82-84 to answer questions posed on teacher’s guide these pages and to develop the concept. Reteaching 2-11 and Enrichment 2-11 worksheets will be discussed and worked through together also.
  4. Independent Practice: Students will complete Practice worksheet 2-11 and teacher will check and recheck until students have all answers correct.
  5. Formative Assessment: Students will complete Quick Check 2-11 worksheet.

Wednesday----Understanding Subtraction Review

Teacher will use review worksheets 85 and 86 to review subtraction concepts from the chapter. Then teacher will pull up the website and choose the first few games under subtraction for students to work through. This will review concepts also from the chapter.

Thursday---Topic 2: Understanding Subtraction Assessment

Students will complete multiple choice and constructed response assessment over Topic 2.

Friday---Topic 3 Lesson 3-1: Representing Numbers on a Ten-Frame

Book Leaping Lizards: Teacher will introduce the concept of counting by 5’s and 10’s through a story about lizards gathering for a show.

Teacher will also use the Interactive Math story, “Take a Trip On a Ten Frame”, in the big book so that students will recognize numbers on a ten-frame and understand that 2 rows of 5 items equals 10 items.

Objective: Students will use counters and a ten frame to model numbers up to 10.

Common Core Standard: 1.OA.5

Teacher will introduce today’s lesson with computer CD topic 3 lesson 1.

  1. Daily Common Core Review worksheet 3-1: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review concepts: modeling basic facts and writing number sentences.
  2. Develop the Concept: Interactive: Teacher will use number cards 0-11 and counters to provide for students whose Popsicle stick names are drawn out the opportunity to represent numbers using a ten frame and relate them to the benchmark numbers 5 and 10.
  3. Develop the Concept: Visual: Teacher will discuss the tops of worksheets 92 and 93 to model how to use a ten-frame to help show numbers to 10. Also, class will work together on problems on worksheet pages 92-94 to answer questions posed on teacher’s guide these pages and to develop the concept. Reteaching 3-1 and Enrichment 3-1 worksheets will be discussed and worked through together also.
  4. Independent Practice: Students will complete practice worksheet 3-1 and teacher will check and recheck work until students have correct answers.

Monday, Sept. 24---Topic 3 Lesson 3-2: Recognizing Numbers on a Ten-Frame

Objective: Students will learn to recognize numbers on a ten-frame, noting the relationship of those numbers to 5 and 10.

Common Core Standard: 1.OA.5

Teacher will review lesson 3-1 and introduce today’s lesson with computer CD topic 3 lessons 1 and 2.

  1. Daily Common Core Review worksheet 3-2: Teacher will place worksheet under the document camera and students will review the following concepts as they work together: writing number sentences, modeling basic facts, and representing quantities.
  2. Develop the Concept: Interactive: Teacher will use blank mini 10 frames and counters to provide students who Popsicle stick names are drawn out the opportunity to help others recognize numbers shown on a ten-frame. Follow directions on teacher’s guide pg. 95.
  3. Develop the Concept: Visual: Teacher will discuss the tips of worksheets 96 and 97 to model how to learn about writing numbers shown on ten-frames. Also, class will work together on problems on worksheet pages 96-98 to answer questions posed on teacher’s guide these pages and to develop the concept. Reteaching 3-2 and Enrichment 3-2 worksheets will be discussed and worked through together also.
  4. Independent Practice: Students will complete worksheet Practice 3-2 and teacher will check and recheck answers until all answers are correct.
