Job Title / Purpose of Position: Key Stage Leader of English

Person Specification

Six Key Roles:

  1. Support the Head of Faculty in leading and managing the English team.
  2. Strategic development and direction of Englishat KS3 within the college
  3. Oversight of KS3 English and its day to day provision
  4. Oversight of KS3 examinations in English
  5. Responsible for raising standards, setting targets and monitoring progress
  6. Development of additional opportunities to enrich the experience of students studying English

Professional Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher status
  • English related degree

Teaching and Learning

  • Experience of examination at GCSE
  • Excellent classroom practitioner
  • Up-to-date knowledge of NC
  • Good understanding of assessment for learning and target setting
  • Successful teaching record in English
  • A passion for innovative learning

Leading and Managing Staff

  • Experience as a successful member of a department team
  • Understanding and experience of departmental self-evaluation
  • Ability to manage a team into a cohesive unit
  • Good personal management skills
  • Commitment to taking an active role in the college’s middle management forum

Strategic Direction and Development

  • Successful experience of managing change
  • Experience of department/school Improvement planning
  • Clear vision of how to provide for students across the ability range and how the English curriculum can be developed to personalise learning

Deployment of Resources

  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Ability to maximize the effectiveness of staff deployment
