Most Current Position(Director of Worship & Arts at Colonial Presbyterian Church):

The goal on the front end of my most current position was to reorient the Worship & Arts ministry towards a more contemporary pursuit and build a creative arts community within a church environment that serves the needs of the church and creates new opportunities for ministry and communication. I was hired to begin, organize and lead all aspects of Worship Creative Arts (which now consists of a programming team, multiple worship teams, youth worship team, choir and children’s choir, visual arts, drama, multimedia, creative communications and special projects – recordings, concerts, etc.). Part of our pursuit is to have a creative blast serving the needs of the church in this capacity. Previously, the orientation had been such that the on-ramp to the minimal amount of arts involvement was a choir.

Strengths, Self-Assessment:

My primary strengths are instrategic planning, communication, team building, encouragement, mentoring and incremental implementation. I am competent with regard to computer skills and applications. Because I have had the opportunity to start and run organizations from the ground floor and therefore wear a variety of hats I have forced myself to become proficient with regard to financial software, web page design software, audio and video production software, networking software (Generally in the Microsoft, Intuit and Adobe families) as well as the standard Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) software and applications. I am also proficient with audio and video equipment and software (Adobe Premiere, Audition, Photoshop, etc.) used to create, edit and mix a variety of video, commercial musicand graphics. Additionally I am very competent with presentation software such as Power Point, Media Shout, Easy Worship and I’m currently getting up to speed on Pro-Presenter.

I test well in leadership and team building. I score high (Berkman) on corporate adaptation, working with and around people and greatly enjoy interactive strategic planning and implementation. I have been identified as a designer/developer on my most recent assessment test (DISC).

Passions:

Process - I am driven by the privilege that I have had to lead, teach and collaborate with others in helping identify their gifts, applying them authentically in areas such as worship, communication and media arts. Further, in order to help build a solid foundation that invites the most passionate and fullworship and creativity inviting culture I enjoy creating effective systems and processes that can lead to powerful artistic communication, transcendent worship environments, educational illustrations and unique & ongoing events. Knowing that there is not a set template for this pursuit the joy comes from the unique groupings of talented people that God puts in proximity of one another. As such, as these teams of creatorscome together in their unique waythere is never a dull moment. I believe that the sky is the limit in how worship teams, the media and the arts can serve the teaching and communication goals of a corporate leadership and I consider it a privilege to be invited into that process. I also recognize the privilege of being allowed to continue my own professional development (Human Capital Development and Theological education) through continued academic pursuit. I have found this to be an important part of my continued development as a leader / mentor / creator.

Worship and Worship Content–As someone who is a worship leader at the core I have never been more excited about the wealth of great worship music and other resources for worship. Further, as church leadership invites the involvement of creative individuals not just as emulators but also as creators of unique content (original music and arrangements) to lead and advocate for such creativity is a genuine privilege and bedrock passion.

Dream Position:

I believe that strategic planning, innovative system creation, process creation, creative media, spiritual and technical developmentcan collaborate with leaders and educators in highly effective ways to hone in on and propel the educational and self-improvement search of human beings in our society to new heights. I believe that collaborative creative processes are a necessary tool in highlighting and participating with this search. My hope is to focus my energies upon facilitating creative collaboration withinnon-profits, Churches, corporate leaders and strategic organizers, creators, writers, pastor/teachers, creative programming minds &media directors as well as uponbuilding and leading creative teams. Therefore my dream position would be to build and lead and mentor ongoing teams of creative and goal oriented people and communicators in developing and implementing(launching, living into, marketing and maintaining) lofty, seemingly unachievable goals as well as maintaining and continuously improving processes and systems in organizations focused upon faith, education and improving the world.
