NEWSLETTER NO.5 DATE: February 25 2018

Greetings BNC members and families,

I hope you had a great week! This week BNC committee had quite a discussion regarding sponsorship and fund raising for our club. The intention is to finance various activities for players and coaches such as additional specialist training sessions, ongoing additional coach development, etc. If anyone has any ideas or is aware of any businesses looking to enter a sponorship agreement with a sporting club, could you please advise BNC as soon as possible via our club email .

It would be greatly appreciated if team managers/coaches would submit photos of BNC teams for publication in future newsletters and/or display on BNC’s annual presentation evening. Just remember to avoid the inclusion on non BNC members in photo submissions.

Kind regards,

Jo Brown :)

Match Reports

U13 Section 1 – Bayside def Valley - 22-17

A nice win this week, especially as we had a few changes to the team. A few messy passages of play and not concentrating on our goals that we set before the game meant going into the fourth quarter only a goal up. A very strong last quarter with some outstanding shooting and circle defence bought up a five goal win.

U13 Section 3 – Bayside def by Valley - 16-23

The girls put up a very good fight against Valley on Thursday! Whilst they fell short, they came out as aggressive and tough opponents. All players connected well down the court with the goalers working extremely well together to convert turnovers and centre passes. Very pleased with the girls efforts and excited to see things we’ve been working on at training being transferred onto the court.

U13 Section 7 – Bayside def by WDNA - 11-25

A great start to the game with the girls coming out really strong by utilising the space and taking lots of intercepts. However, we ran out of steam in the second half causing more errors. Nevertheless, our first half was a brilliant indicator of the quality netball the girls are capable of.

U15 Section 1 – Bayside def PEN - 23-22

Bayside u15’s Div 1 defeated PEN. Starting to work consistently throughout whole game, cutting down turnover more and more each week….. and generally working better as a team. Well done on your first win girls…. Great effort!

U15 Section 3 – Bayside - Bye

U15 Section 5 – Bayside def Prahran - 36-20

Bayside defeated Prahran. The girls were fired up early and definitely committed to their game plan. It’s great to see that they are starting to grasp the concept of channels and also how to control the pace of the game. Great effort in all areas of the court with a special mention to mid court intercepts.

U15 Section 6 – Bayside def by Southern Fusion - 17-23

It was a tight game tonight; and for three quarters we certainly matched Southern Fusion. Our intensity and movement was much better than last week. The last quarter saw them just chip away but it was pleasing to see we didn't give up. Our defence was outstanding and our ability to try short, sharp drives consistently was outstanding - Sophie great game in WA! Thanks so much to Jarli and Ashlee who filled in tonight, great work. We'll work on passing and moving the ball from defence to attack on Sunday. See you at training.

U17 Waverley Prem. Section 1 (Wed. night) – Bayside defWDNA - 53-24

A strong performance across four quarters with structured ball movement through the centre third. Great space created and used after working on it on Sunday. Thanks to Lucy D and Kara W for filling in so ably.

U17 Waverley Prem. Section 2 (Wed. night) – Bayside def by Melbourne East - 38-52

Bayside went down on Wednesday night to Melbourne East. The girls made a lot of silly mistakes and turnovers and struggled to play consistent netball.

U17 Parkville Division 1 – Bayside def Geelong Flyers - 34-16

Fantastic game, converted many more turnovers this week which was very pleasing. Solid defence all the way down the court and great goaling.

U17 Parkville Division 2 – Bayside def DC Force - 33-15
Coach unavailable for comment.

Open Division 1 – Bayside def DC Force - 37-22

Div 1 had another fantastic win last night. The girls worked hard to keep pushing out the lead after finishing the first quarter 13-1. We need to continue working on maintaining discipline throughout the whole game, and not panicking when the opposition gets a run on. Nevertheless it was a wonderful team effort, and a pleasure to coach.

Open Division 2 – Bayside - Bye

Open Division 3 – Bayside def by Doncaster & District - 22-25

Div 3 had a loss against Doncaster. While we played well in parts we weren’t able to take the lead at any stage...when we’re confident in attack it worked beautifully but our full court defence still needs work and we need to be able to finish off our good work with a goal.

Open Division 4 – Bayside def by Northern Storm - 20-23

Div 4 had a frustrating loss against an older, bigger and stronger Northern Storm. While we will take a number of lessons from this match and be better for it, we still had our opportunities to take the win which we needed to capitalise on.

Go Bayside!
