Project Read March 11-15
Monday--- Unit 19 r-controlled vowels and sight words who, some, come
Class will review r-controlled vowel spellings ar, er, and ir with the teacher placing the bossy r worksheet 19-3 under the document camera and discussing the sounds, spellings, and diacritical mark also.
Students will skywrite /ar/ 3 times and review /ar/ words by rereading words on worksheet 19-9.
Students will review the red word who by arm tapping and sweeping the word down their arm 5 times and also by reading sentences containing the word who on worksheet 19-15.
Students will skywrite /er/ 3 times and review /er/ by finger blending each syllable to put together to reread words on worksheet 19-23 and sentences on 19-24. Students will review the steps for dividing these words into syllables.
Students will skywrite /ir/ 3 times and practice rereading /ir/ words on worksheet 19-25.
Students will skywrite /ur/ 3 times and practice rereading /ur/ words and sentences containing /ur/ words on worksheet 19-27.
Teacher will display red words come and some and students will arm tap and sweep each word 5 times each on their arm.
Teacher will place the story, “Come” under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the story. Oral readers will read the story. No quiz on this story.
Teacher will place the story, “Junk” under the document camera and students will practice choral rereading and discussing the story. Oral readers will then read for oral reading grade. Then teacher will reread the story, asking students to picture in their mind what is happening in the story as she reads. After the readings and discussion of the story, students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will leave the story up on the screen while students take the quiz. Afterward, teacher will take down the story and students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.
Sentence Dictation: Students will set up a piece of notebook paper with Dictation at the top, name and date underneath. Teacher will dictate the following sentences and students will repeat each sentence, counting the number of words in the sentence. Students will use finger blending for phonetic words and arm tapping for sight words as needed as they write each sentence. After work on the sentences is complete, class will discuss and check/correct their work on the sentences: Did your dog come with you? The cats had some milk.
Teacher will display bossy r picture worksheet 19-3 again and ask students what they know about bossy r? Bossy r controls the vowel sound and is polite and lets the vowel be first.
Teacher will display /or/ and tell students the sound of /or/. You hear it in the word horn. Students will practice reading the word horn by finger blending and sweeping sounds.
Class will skywrite /or/ sound and spelling 3 times.
Teacher will place worksheet 19-35, 19-36 (or words and sentences containing or words) under the document camera. Students will practice reading the words and sentences. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.
If extra time, teacher will use “Between the Lions” and “Starfall” websites to review /or/ sound and spelling in words.

Teacher will place the story, “Bart’s Sports Car” under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Students will fill out study guide for Unit 19 to also take home and study for a test tomorrow.
Friday--- Unit 19 r-controlled vowels and sight words who, some, come
To review r-controlled vowels and sight words who, some, and come, the teacher will place the Jeweled Treasure Box worksheet 19-37, 19-38 under the document camera and oral reading grades will be taken.
Students will complete Unit 19 Project Read assessment.
Students will complete a spelling assessment over the following words: or, born, corn, short, sport, north, thorn, storm, corner, forgot.
