Oh, whew, boy! This is hard work! Oh! Hello, girls and boys~ I’m cleaning up a big mess and it’s really hard work. It seems someone spilled a lot of paint on the floor. I wonder who it could have been. I’m sure I’ll find out in just a little while. You know, our story for today has something to do with cleaning and I think we should find out more about it. Look at the cover of your book The title of our story for today is ‘Splishy-Sploshy’. And I see Mrs.Wishy-Washy, working very hard cleaning her house. That’s what I’m doing too. In a moment, a storyteller will read our tale for today. I want you to follow along carefully, looking at all the pictures, and turning the page each time you hear this sound. [Diling doong]. Okay! From the cover of your book, let’s get started and I’ll keep cleaning up this mess.

Oh, this mess! Paint everywhere, dirt everywhere. I wonder who did this. What do you think boys and girls? Could it have been the meanies who made this mess in my house too? If I catch them, I’ll give them a good washing and drying. That’ll fix them. Well, for now girls and boys, let’s have some actors perform our story for us and we’ll add music and sound effects to the tale, which will make it much more fun and interesting. This time, I want you to begin from the title page, which is the page right inside of the front cover. Turn there now.
On the title page, you’ll see the meanies sneaking around the side of the shed they’d messed up. This time, as the actors perform the story, I want you to follow along reading as many of the words as possible. Remember, as a help, turn the page each time you hear this sound. [Diling doong]. All right. From the title page of your book, let’s begin.

Well, I’m convinced. Those meanies made this mess in my house. They run around looking for things to get into all the time. I’ve never seen such messy creatures. Anyway, I’ll catch them soon enough. For now though, we are going to read the story one last time. But this time, you’ll be doing a special function. You’ll be filling in some missing words. Turn to page 2 in your book and I’ll give you an example of what you are going to do. All right. Is everyone on page 2? Good. You’ll need to follow along very carefully.
You’ll hear the narrator say, ‘The meanies found some paint pots in the garden –beep(sound)-. And you’ll fill in the missing word, shed. Simple, isn’t it? Great. There will be missing words throughout the story, so you’ll need to pay very close attention. Now, let’s all turn back to title page and we’ll get started.
