EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

Minutes of January 9, 2012 Meeting

Board Members Present: Peg Seeling, Nicki Luper, Don Dalziel, Keri Von Moos, Jim Sandusky, Robert Polk, Matt Blair, Curt De Haan, and Colin Cushman.

District One Director: Jim Piccolo

The meeting was called to order at 3:03 PM.

Consensus Agenda. M/S/P

·  Approval of Agenda as E-Mailed – Additional agenda items may added at this time

·  Approval of December 5, 2011 Meeting Minutes as distributed

·  November Tournament financial and register reports

Information

·  WIAA State Mini trophy recipients’

·  Classifications

·  Cascade Conference, Coupeville situation, CPCH league application. Coupeville will be granted to go independent in football only for the next two years. CPCH was denied league entre.

·  WIAA approval for Oak Harbor HS and Burlington-Edison HS players wearing insulin pump.

·  WIAA approval for Lake Stevens HS player to wear a compression sleeve.

·  League alignments for NW. District One.

·  WIAA Reimbursement. Process/notification. Application process was reviewed. Colin, Don, and Jim are looking at a simplified process for member schools. A meeting with Tim Stevens, Colin, Don, and Jim to look over a process used by WIAA District #3. Once application process is finalized all District One members’ school will be informed.

·  Field evaluation team and process. A committee will look at updating the football/soccer fields for state playoffs.

·  WIAA Garth Giles award. Harlan Kredit nomination will be passed on to the WIAA. Curt De Haan will finalize nomination form and information.

·  NW District One Board will be putting a committee together to try and standardize district bulletins and put together a manager’s task list. This will help new and veteran Athletic Directors when hosting a district event.

2.  Rule Violations.

a.  Monroe HS Wrestling violation rule 18.0 - M/S/P

b.  Darrington HS Girls varsity basketball violation rule 52.5 – played five quarters. (Pending league action on report from Darrington to the league on plan of improvement).

c.  La Conner HS Girls Soccer program 3.4/25.2.6 - M/S/P

d.  Marysville-Getchell HS transfer student played in game 18.11.0 – M/S/P

e.  Burlington-Edison ineligible player who lied to coach about grades 27.4. ‘ M/S/P

f.  Fall report sent to WIAA

3.  Ejections. - Winter ejection reports were sent out to all member schools. Schools are reminded to forward the information on any ejections to the District Director the day after the ejection occurs. Updated copy of the fall ejection report was sent to member schools and the WIAA.

5.  WIAA Report – Harlan Kredit. A total comprehensive report was sent out to member schools. Harlan went over the highlights of the report with the NW Executive Board.

7.  Winter Sport Tournaments

a.  Dates/Sites/Managers. Are on the NWD website.

b.  Tournament Bulletins. Information bulletins are being posted on the web site as they come into the District Director. All bulletins are due by January 18th.

c.  Approval of Playoff Brackets. All previously approved.

d.  Request for Officials for Basketball and Wrestling. The requests are being sent to the officials for the basketball and wrestling tournaments being hosted by the NW District.

e.  Reminder if you are hosting a game at your facility it is your responsibility to contact your local official association or board that services you. These games are not being assigned by the District Director. Only games at the final tournament site are being assigned by the District Director.

8.  League Reports.

a.  Northwest Conference: Coaches for Cancer events will be at the end of January. A new cancer facility is opening at St. Joseph. Coaches and players are encouraged to attend the ceremony. June 5th and 6th will be the retreat for the conference.

b.  WESCO: Film exchange was a concern with state football playoffs. League schedules for the next two years are being formulated.

c.  NW1B: Football league concerns and how to divide the league up either North/South or East/West.

d.  NW 2B1B: Scheduling concerns with a multi-classification league. 1A/2B/1B.

e.  Cascade Conference: Coaches for Cancer events will be the end of January.

f.  Middle Schools N/S: No report.

9.  Spring Coalition. 9:00am March 12th 2012.
