The respondent is Waterbury Republican, whose business address is 389 Meadow St., Waterbury, CT 06702.

THE PARTICULARS OF MY COMPLAINT ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1.  My name is Robert McDonald and I reside 105 Forestview Dr., Wolcott, CT 06716.

2.  The respondent is Waterbury Republican whose business address is 389 Meadow St., Waterbury, CT 06702.

3.  The respondent offers services to the public.

4.  I am a gay male who is in civil union.

5.  On October 9, 2005 Alan Couture and I were joined in a civil union as defined by the 2005 Connecticut Public Act No. 05-10 (SSB 963).

6.  Section 15 of the 2005 Public Act No. 05-10 (SSB 963) mandates that whenever Connecticut General Statutes denote “marriage”, “spouse”, “next of kin”, or “family”, a party to a civil union is included in that definition.

7.  The respondent offers a free service where they print pictures of married couples in their newspaper.

8.  Some time in October of 2005, my spouse and I went to the respondent facility requesting that our pictures be printed in the newspaper.

9.  A male agent of the respondent asked us if we had ever read the respondent newspaper.

10.  I indicated that I have read the respondent newspaper.

11.  The agent of the respondent responded that if we read the paper that we should know that it is the Waterbury “REPUBLICAN” and that they would not be printing our pictures.

12.  Other similarly situated married couples have had their photos printed in the newspaper.

13.  I charge the respondent with discriminating against me because of my sexual orientation.

14.  I charge the respondent with discriminating against me because of my marital status.
