Something To Shout About!!
(Joshua 6:10,16 KJV)
10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.
Whenever we hear the word Jericho—we automatically visualize brick walls tumbling down. Moreover, many of us grew together up singing the song about Jericho. Joshua fought the battle of Jericho and the walls came tumbling down. Although we are familiar with this song, sadly it’s not theologicallysound doctrine. In fact, Joshua’s fighting didn’t bring down the walls, nor did an earthquake or the shout of over two million people. So., let's take some time to maneuver through what God’s Word says.
(Hebrews 11:30 KJV)
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
That's Right—Faith brought down the walls!
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is , and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
What is faith? Faith is the confidence and trust in God that causes us to obey. Study the heroes of Hebrews 11 and you will find men and women who obeyed—were given difficult and impossible situations, yet who had such confidence in God that they obey whatever He told them to do and as a result, they saw God perform miracles. That’s why God gives us walls like Jericho. God wants to be glorified through our faith in Him.
Now, though the Israelites had defeated the Ammonite kings on the east side of Jordan, Jericho was the city they must take if they were to conquer Canaan. That's right Jericho was the pathway to Canaan. Jericho was a fortified, walled city, and its king had spared no effort to prepare its defenses against the Israelites who had been encamped a few miles east of Jordan for many months. Humanly speaking, defeating a city like Jericho was impossible. But may I remind you that with God – nothing shall be impossible.
- God Will Provide A Safe Haven:
After the death of Great Patriarch Moses, God chose Joshua, son of Nun, to be the supreme leader of the Israelite people, because God knew they needed guidance along their tedious journey. They set about to conquer the promised land of Canaan, under the influence of the Lord's guidance. But in order to get there, they will have to go through Jericho. God said to Joshua, “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."(Joshua 1:9 KJV)
