2) Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Program
The Rural Community Hospital Demonstration is a CMS program to test the feasibility of alternative, cost-based reimbursement models for small rural hospitals that are too large to be Critical Access Hospitals (CAH). Evaluation of the program will assess the financial impact on participating hospitals and the effects of healthcare on the populations served. The goal of the program is to increase the capability of the selected rural community hospitals to meet the healthcare needs of Medicare beneficiaries in their service areas and to promote access to high quality and efficient healthcare delivery. An applicant must be a hospital that: is located in a rural area; has fewer than 51 acute care inpatient beds (not including beds in a psychiatric or rehabilitation unit of the hospital which is a distinct part of the hospital); makes available 24-hour emergency care services; and is not eligible for CAH designation, or has not been designated a CAH under section 1820 of the Social Security Act. Applications are due to CMS by May 17, 2017.
The Request for Applications is available here.
3) Kendal Charitable Funds: Promising Innovations Grants Support Organizations Serving Seniors
Kendal’s Promising Innovations grants are intended for nonprofit organizations that work to meet the needs of an increasing population of elders. The program is seeking proposals that support aging in place and combat isolation of older adults through engagement in purposeful and meaningful ways within the greater community. The program hopes to identify factors that lead to isolation and to address them before and/or after they occur, especially utilizing new, replicable models. Grants will range up to $50,000 for a two-year period. Several smaller requests may be granted rather than one or two larger ones. Letters of intent must be submitted by May 19, 2017; invited proposals will be due on August 4, 2017. Learn more here.
