NAVAL OUTDOOR CENTRE GERMANY (NOCG) FAMILIES PACKAGE INFORMATION

1. Introduction. NOCG offers all RN/RM Families the use of NOCG during the Christmas and Easter leave periods for a substituted price. As you can appreciate this facilities is in high demand. All serving RN/RM personnel and reservists are eligible to apply for a place on the Families Packages.

2. Location. NOCG is located in the small town of Bad Oberdorf which is in the district of Oberallgäu in Southern Bavaria, Germany. It is within close proximity to both the Austrian and Swiss borders. The temperatures during winter months can drop to minus 20°C and in summer months rise to plus 30°C

3. Travel. There are numerous options to travel to NOCG.

a. By air. There are two main airports within reasonable driving distance from NOCG; Memmingen Airport which is 76km away and is approximately 55mins by car and Munich International Airport which is 193km away and is approximately 2hrs by car.

b. By train. Trains are relatively cheap and punctual in Germany. Munich International Airport has a train station within its grounds and Memmingen Airports closest train station is Bahnhof Memmingen which is 4.6km away. The nearest train terminal to the NOCG is Bahnhof Sonthofen which is 10km away from the NOCG.

c. By car. For those intending to drive to NOCG, please be aware that Southern Bavaria does experience heavy snowfall and winter tyres are a legal requirement when winter conditions are present.

4. Accommodation. NOCG is a beautiful 4* Bavarian style hotel that is managed by Breakfast is a thorough affair offering traditional hot and cold servings. A self prepared packed lunch is available for your day on the slopes and in the evening, a hearty dinner - all meals are included within the price.

All rooms are en-suite, a weights and CV area are available for your use along with an impressive wellness and sauna area. There is a TV lounge which has a selection of UK TV channels as well as a selection of DVD’s (If you do have smaller children, it is recommended that you bring a selection of children’s films). Wi fi is available free of charge. Washing machines, washing powder and dryers are all available for use throughout stay. All plugs require European adaptors and you are recommended to bring your own.

5. Ski Equipment. NOCG does not provide any ski equipment or clothing for the duration of your stay. Ski equipment hire will be available from a local provider at very competitive prices. All ski equipment hire can be arranged on arrival at NOCG The hire shop is directly opposite to NOCG less then 20 meters away.

6. Ski Instruction. Ski instruction is available from a local ski school and can be provided for all ages. Local ski instruction can be arranged on arrival at NOCG British instructors may be available but are not guaranteed. The ski school do however provide English speaking instructors. Please note: NOCG does not provide any ski instruction by its staff.

7. Ski Passes. Ski passes will be provided free of charge by NOCG. These passes can only be used at two local ski resorts. The first resort is Oberjoch which is 7.5km away and is approximately 10 minutes by car. Oberjoch offers 32 km of groomed slopes and 45 km of cross country ski trails. Unterjoch the second resort is 9.8km away and takes approximately 13 minutes by car and offers 7 km of groomed slopes.

A limited number of passes are also available for the Nebelhorn and Fellhorn/Kanzelwand ski resorts. These passes are also free of charge but must be reserved on a daily basis. The Nebelhorn is the highest ski resort in the Allgäu. From the top of Nebelhorn you have a view of over 400 peaks utilising 13km of slopes, which includes the 7.5 km long slope which descends towards the valley.

The Fellhorn/Kanzelwand resort has one of the most modern snow-making facilities in the alps making sure that Fellhorn/Kanzelwand has white slopes throughout the whole winter.

Should you wish to use other ski resorts this must be at your own personal expense. Advice is readily available along with snow reports to assist you in your decision of where to ski.

8. Transport/Parking. Parking is available directly outside NOCG. A bus service to Oberjoch and other ski areas is available just outside NOCG free of charge with your ski pass. Further information will be provided by house staff on arrival. Parking at ski resorts is available for a small fee by utilising the computerised car park terminal point. Please be aware the NOCG does not provide any transport for the duration of your stay.

9. Insurance/Medical. It is strongly recommended that all attendees have personal accident insurance which will offer additional peace of mind and cover the duration of your stay, attendees are reminded that the EHIC card does not cover recovery from slopes which without additional insurance will come at a personal cost. You are strongly advised to have in your possession at all times a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and your passport.

Recovery from the slopes is very expensive and a credit card or proof of insurance will be required at the time prior to any treatment been given. Routine medical matters can be dealt with by the local doctor via the use if the EHIC card.

10. Local Facilities.

a. Children's Activities.

(1) Soft Play. Allgäulino is an indoor playground in Wertach which you and your children can run around and have fun in over 3,000sqm.There are mountains and towers to be conquered and the 10 meter high dragon castle offers everything that makes a child's heart beat faster. (2) Swimming Pool. The Wonnemar is a large swimming complex with slides such as the Kamikaze, Black Hole, Crazy River, turbo or family slide. The little ones can play in Wonniland with the water gun or Wonnifontäne and climb around in the pirate ship, experience that holiday feeling at the beach in the wave pool adventure. b. Adult Activities.

(1) Swimming Pool and Wellness Complex. You can expect a wide range of saunas to sweat it out in, furthermore, an impressive stone bath and relaxing warm relaxation pool. There is also a Mediterranean ambience rest room you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the Allgäu mountains. Please be advised the sauna facilities employ a naked only policy. (2) Climbing. The DAV Climbing Centre is located in Sonthofen which is 8km away from the centre and takes around 15 minutes by car. Please see www.kletterzentrum-sonthofen.de for further information.

c. Taxis. There are taxis available from Taxi Sonthofen.

d. Hire cars. Hire cars are available from Europcar Car Rental, An Der Eisenschmelze 287527Sonthofen contact number 004908321 2093.

e. Restaurants. Below is a recommended list of local restaurants within Bad Hindelang:

There is also with a Pizzeria located in Vorderhindelang which is 2km away. Located in Sonthofen are a wide range of restaurants providing a variety of foods from local dishes to Chinese and Indian menus.

f. Local amenities. Located just outside of NOCG is a bank from which you may withdraw Euros. There is a bakery within 60 seconds walk which provides beautifully made fresh bread and cakes, there are also coffee shops with Bad Hindelang which also sell various snack items. Bad Hindelang has a Tourist Information Office which can provide you with any information which you may not find within this admin instruction.
