2015-2015 Class Schedules

Attention freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. In order to receive your schedule for next year during the summer, your Next Step Plan must be on file. If you have not completed your next step plan, please see your counselor.

Junior Class Honor Graduate Status

Juniors need to see their class counselor, Ashley Gaytan, if they have any questions or concerns regarding their status as honor graduates.

Fees, Fines, Textbooks

HHS students need to pay all fees and library fines as soon as possible. Textbooks should be returned as soon as students finish with them. This is especially important for seniors as no transcripts can be sent or diplomas issued until fees and fines are paid and textbooks are returned. Class fees may be paid in the HHS business office and library fines may be paid in the HHS library.

Baccalaureate Service

Baccalaureate will be held on Wednesday evening, May 13th at 6:00 p.m. in Tydings Auditorium. Graduates are strongly encouraged to attend. Graduation dress code will apply to baccalaureate.

Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice

Senior Breakfast and practice for the graduation exercises practice will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18th at Lea County Event Center on the main floor. Seniors will be served breakfast and parents arewelcome to come (standing room only) andwatchthe presentation; however, there will not be enough accommodations for parents to eat breakfast too. Graduation practice will immediately follow the breakfast. Attendance is required in order to participate in commencement exercises.

Graduation 2015

Graduation will be held on Monday evening, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Lea County Event Center. Due to the limited number of fixed seats at the Event Center, tickets are required for entry to the arena for all spectators. Doors will open to the public at 5:30 p.m. and will be open seating for the general admission ticket. The Commencement Ceremony will be available live on Cable Channel 19 and via a link on the hobbsschools.net website.

Official Transcripts for Seniors

Official transcripts at Hobbs High School will not be sent until seniors pay for all textbooks, fees, fines and a release form is on file. Official transcripts are defined as a transcript with the official school seal sent directly from the office of the registrar at HHS. If a student is 18 years of age, they may sign a release for a transcript. Otherwise, a parental signature is required. For students who have withdrawn or graduated, there is a $1 charge.

Senior Packets

Seniors can come by the main office this summer to pick up their senior packet. The packet will have programs from Baccalaureate and Graduation, a DVD of the graduation ceremony and activities, and the commencement photo. The packets will be ready by June 9.

Mapping Your Future's top 10 tips for selecting a school

10. Establish your goals and interests.

9. If you know what career interests you the most, find out what kind of education and training you'll need to work in that field.

8. Take the standardized tests that may be required for admission.

7. Familiarize yourself with the different types of schools, and find out what characteristics to look for when selecting a school.

6. Choose the characteristics that are important to you.

5. Gather information about schools, including costs, financial aid, and admissions requirements.

4. Make a short list of the schools that possess the characteristics you're looking for and that best meet your goals and needs.

3. Apply for admission to the four to six schools that top your list.

2. Visit the schools. Some schools offer an online campus tour if you are unable to visit in person.

And the number one tip for selecting a school is . . .

Compare financial aid packages. Even though a school's tuition may be higher, they may offer you more financial aid.

Reminders

·  The ACT will be given on June 13. The registration deadline is May 8. To sign up, please visit www.ACTStudent.org

·  The SAT will be given on June 6. The registration deadline is May 22. To sign up, please visit www.collegeboard.com

·  Students who need letters of recommendation should deliver them to the recommender at least 2 weeks before the deadline.

·  Regardless of income, all families should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1 for each academic year because most aid requires it. For more tips and details on the financial aid process visit www.wellsfargo.com/fivesteps.

May tasks for high school seniors

·  Be aware of any summer orientation sessions that you must attend at the school in which you will enroll, and make plans accordingly.

·  Finalize your summer job plans, and make a plan for saving a portion of your summer earnings.

·  Notify your high school guidance office of your college selection and any scholarships received. Follow up to ensure the counselor forwards your final school transcripts to the college.
