ClearPoint Announces Winner of Homebuyer Workshop Drawing

ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions celebrates its efforts to create successful homeowners through free financial education by awarding a lucky family $5k

Los Angeles, CA - An Oregon family is closer than ever to fulfilling their dream of owning a home, thanks to valuable information and a $5,000 check towards a down payment from ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions.

Chase and Haley Atherton, who have two children, were selected in a random drawing from hundreds of participants who attended a series of homebuyer workshops that ClearPoint hosted throughout Oregon and California over the past six months. ClearPoint Senior Vice President and Chief Education Officer Martha Lucey presented the check, along with a golden key, at the company’s branch in Granada Hills, Calif.

“Our highly successful homebuyer workshops reflect ClearPoint’s commitment to consumer health through financial education,” Lucey said. “I was pleased to meet Chase and Haley, who are fine examples of what can be accomplished through perseverance and a dedication to become informed consumers.”

The Athertons became parents as teenagers and, over the years, have struggled to find rental housing close to good schools for their children. Credit problems and a period of unemployment presented obstacles in their decade-long pursuit of homeownership. After being turned down for a mortgage, the couple enrolled in one of ClearPoint’s no-cost workshops designed to teach consumers how to navigate the process and prepare for making life’s biggest investment. During the session, they found a mortgage consultant and also met with a ClearPoint representative to learn what steps they could take to help them achieve their goals.

“Our first goal is to save for down a payment and then find a home that fits our family’s needs,” Haley Atherton said. “The dream is to be able to own our first home, and be able to teach our children the responsible way to plan for the future. And, hopefully, be able to help them buy their first home too.”

The information from the free workshops is now available to all prospective homeowners in an online course at u.clearpointccs.org – ClearPoint’s module based financial e-learning hub.
