Nursing Knowledge Paper Guidelines and Grading

The Nursing Knowledge Paper is a 10-12 page typed paper, which must be double spaced and in APA format. The student will write about a nursing theorist, explain the theory, describe how the theory is used in practice, and discuss research that has been guided by the theory. You may use the same theorist that was the focus of your class presentation.
Format shall include the following:

  1. Introduction
  2. Description of the nursing theorist and the nursing theory. Include key concepts of the theory, an explanation of how they are linked, and a graphic representation of the theory. Include definitions of person, environment, health, and nursing used by the theorist.
  3. Analysis of how the theory has been applied to nursing practice
  4. Discussion of key research that has been guided by the theory
  5. Summary and conclusion

Be sure that you use a variety of original references, including books by the theorist, journal articles, research articles, interviews, and websites.

The first draft of the nursing knowledge paper must be submitted on-line on or before March 31. Papers will be graded and returned in digital format for revision on or before April 7. Using the instructor’s feedback, revise the paper and resubmit it to the instructor for reevaluation and grading on or before April 14. The higher of the two scores will be used for the final grade. The instructor will then return the paper to the student who submits it to the electronic writing portfolio.
