President’s Report
Mary Lui reported that 2008 was a very successful year with significant achievements including the launching of the HRCCA Scholarship Award Program for Halton graduates entering post-secondary education. Much of HRCCA’s increased visibility also resulted in more invitations from local government and social service agencies to provide support services and community partnerships. Message from the President
Mary Lui
I have had the privilege of serving as the President of HRCCA for the past several terms and I can unabashedly admit that the experience has been fulfilling, fun and rewarding.
Since the inception of HRCCA in 2001, our association has achieved its goals. We have established a scholarship endowment fund with the Oakville Community Foundation, providing annual scholarship to graduating high school students in Halton.
In 2009, HRCCA continued to play an important role in building bridges and promoting cultural understanding as well as providing support to local service agencies.
At our major Chinese New Year Fundraiser Dinner this year, we raised a record breaking donation amount for the Yee Hong Foundation. We continued to organize educational and recreational programs and provided networking opportunities to our members and non-members. Our Mid-Autumn Festival celebration took on a new format this year. The event was a tremendous success and it provided the opportunity for many non-members to share their gifts and talents.
As we are concluding our 9th year as an organization at this AGM, I would like to express my sincere thank to all the Board members for their dedication, leadership, time and effort and in making my job a pleasure. My heartfelt thanks go to our retiring Vice-President, Hok Nam Ng, for his exceptional contribution and guidance on the Board in the pastyears and we hope he will continue to share his support for HRCCA as a valuable founding member.
The vitality and growth of our Association depend on the power of working together to achieve the successes we have enjoyed. On behalf of the Board, I would like to appeal to you, our fellow members, to join our volunteer Board of Directors and share your wisdom as we move forward. I shall continue to serve on the Board as Past Presidentand look forward to our partnership in the new year.
Sincere wishes for a safe, happy holiday season to all of you and your families.
