Research Plan

Rationale: The reason why you want to research your specific chose topic. 2-5 Sentences. If there is a societal impact, state it.

Ex- The reason I would like to research this topic is because most people at one time or another want to know why the sky is blue and not a different color. It is important to understand our planet and our atmosphere because we live on Earth.

Question: Why is the sky blue?

Goals:

I would like to find out about why humans see a blue colored sky instead of another color. I understand that visible light has many blended colors. I hope to find the answer through researching my topic.

I plan on researching visible light and how light can be bent in order to see the individual colors. I plan on researching how light is scattered in the atmosphere. I plan on researching how the human eye sees color.

Hypothesis: If I look at the sky using my eyes then I will only see a blue color because our atmosphere scatters the blue wavelengths of light. Blue wavelengths are shorter and because of this and scattering we perceive a sky that is blue.

Questions that will guide my research:

·  Why is the the sky blue?

·  What are wavelengths?

·  What is scattering and why does our atmosphere do it?

·  What is light?

·  How does a human eye see color?

Procedures:

(Summarize how you plan on conducting your experiment. Include details about any procedure that affects the way you collect your data. Don’t leave any important details out.)

(If your experiment requires you to build a model, then discuss in a short paragraph how you designed it and why you designed it the way you did. In other words, how does the design of your model help you answer your initial question or support/disprove your hypothesis?)

Data Analysis:

Summarize how you plan to collect and interpret your data.

·  What tools will I use to gather my data?

·  How will my data answer my research question or support / disprove my hypothesis?

·  Do I plan on comparing my data? Tracking changes in data over time? Am I going to average out my results before graphing?

·  What type of graph will I used to show my data? Why will I chose this type of graph?

Potential Risks?- There are no potential risks to this projects.

Bibliography

List at least 5 sources—you have 6—and follow the same format for citing your sources. Be consistent.

Human Test Subjects

·  Describe your test subjects. Age range? Gender? Race/ethnic background?

·  Tell how you invited them to participate

·  Explain how you informed them of what they would be doing in this experiment.

·  Tell how your experiment will go and what your test subjects will do.

·  If there are risks, tell what you think they will be.

·  Tell whether or not their identity and their results will be shared or kept confidential. Tell how you plan on keeping results confidential—not using their name, only posting their average results, etc.

Vertebrate Animals:

·  State the type of animal you used in your experiment.

·  State how you plan on keeping them comfortable during your experiment.
