Students and Families:

Welcome! In this course you will work with electronics and systems. Both Analog and Digital electronics will be discussed. The course is an introduction mainly in naming and understanding electronic parts, how systems work together with these parts, and important electronics mathematics. It is recommended that students have a strong math background and great interest in the electronics field if registering for the course.

Introduction:

Electrotechnologies 11 enables students to gain an understanding of electrical and electronic systems and subsystems. Students explore a broad range of technology applications, for example, electric motors, appliances, audio, and video devices, sensors, control devices, security systems, and control systems. Students are motivated to learn by studying such systems in an activity-oriented environment.

This course is designed to give students an overview of the world of electronics. The students will study the following areas: direct current, alternating current, semiconductors, various common electronic circuits, digital electronics, communications, circuit design, and electrical production. Each of these areas will contain experiments and problem solving projects pertaining to real-world challenges with the aid of computer simulation and electronic breadboards. Also, research and presentation of topics will be an integral part of the course in each term.

Course Units:

  1. Components and Concepts
  2. Control Systems
  3. Digital Technology
  4. Power Distribution and Conversion
  5. Personal Research/Model Project

You need:

1. A working computer account at all times and to follow the Internet Use Agreement. If not, your account could be suspended.

2. The students are required to bring a three-ring notebook with a supply of loose leaf, a calculator and a pencil or pen.

3. Materials: The students will be assigned a textbookand will share a class set of electronics kits with lab manual. This kit will be comprised of all components necessary to complete experiments in the course

4. Recommended: Each student is encouraged to supply or have access to the following items.

  • Tools (wire strippers, screw drivers, electrical tape, pliers, soldering equipment, etc.)
  • Students may purchase their own electronics kits (approximate cost: $20.00)
  • Expired electronic devices/appliances for experimentation

Class Expectations:

To be welcomed on a daily basis in my classroom you are expected to:

✗Be Attentive – respectful of announcements, do not interrupt, ask if you have a question, pay attention

✗Be Responsible – do your own work, no cheating, have pride in your work, clean your work area

✗Be Kind – respect, kindness, sharing

✗Be Prepared – working computer account , and lab supplies, text

✗Be On Time – Come directly to class, absences without valid excuses and lates are not accepted

✗No Food or Drinks & No Cell Phones &/or Music playing devices in class or lab

✗Cheating: will result in a zero for that work – This includes sharing documents, answers and plagiarism.

**See “Class Rules” & “The Class Mark Contract”

1 warning is given the first time, in some cases you may be asked to go directly to the office.

Missed Time: Students are responsible for all work and assignments missed during their absence.

*Daily performance and class participation must be considered.

*Care of equipment is expected

**See “Class Rules” & “The Class Mark Contract”

Evaluation – Students will be evaluated according to the following guideline:

1. Portfolio 10% 5. Class Mark 10%

2. Projects 20% 6 . Skills Demonstrations 5%

3. Assignments 30%7. Quiz(s) 10%

4. Tests 15% 8. Final Assessment Event (Exam) 20%

Final Project: Work will be done in class. It will take place instead of an exam. It is work 20 %
