THIRD WEDNESDAY AT THE GLASS STUDIO IS THE HOTTEST EVENT IN TOWN
Second-quarter roster will inspire crowds with guest artists, flames and music
NORFOLK, Va. – (April 2013) – The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio continues its evening series Third Wednesday at the Glass Studio with an exciting roster of entertainment. Admission is free for Museum Members and $5 for all others. In addition to light refreshments, a cash bar is available. Seats are limited, so it’s first-come, first-served with no reservations. The Studio is located at 745 Duke Street, Norfolk.
Third Wednesday at the Glass Studio features inspired glass demonstrations combined with live music or other performance art in a unique, themed program every month.
April 17, 7 to 10 p.m. The Exquisite Corpse
Glassmaking meets Frankenstein as Laura McFie directs The Exquisite Corpse, a surrealistic parlor game. Three different groups from the Glass Studio team, each masked from what the others are creating, will fabricate the head, body and legs of a creature in glass. The resulting creature will come together in an epic culminating moment serenaded by live music from Karacell.
May 15, 7 to 10 p.m. The Mad Scientists
Visiting artist Mark Zirpel, from Seattle, Washington, is most revered for his kinetic art machines. Zirpel takes the stage to create a performance utilizing whale song and weather balloons, his hand- made machines and lab coats. The local one-man stomping band Phillip Roebuck provides the music as these mad scientists experiment.
June 19, 7 to 10 p.m. Godzilla Goes to the Beach
Up-and-coming visiting glass artist Andrew Erdos is traveling from New York City to create one of his signature glass animals. This beast will take a little night stroll into a fictitious miniature paper village. The result will be a Beetlejuice-like experience. Tonight’s musical performance will be by local music legends DJ P & MR. T.
The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio is located directly across the street from the Chrysler Museum. The Chrysler Museum of Art is one of America’s most distinguished mid-sized art museums with a world-class collection of more than 30,000 objects, including one of the great glass collections in America, The Glass Studio, which opened in November 2011, brings the collection to life through innovative performance and educational programs.
