Project Background: FANDOM’S IMPACT ON THE INDUSTRY

Fandom is a term used to refer to a subculture of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Ultimately, fandom is what motivates the sports and entertainment consumer to make purchase decisions relating to available sports and entertainment products.

The term fandom can be used to describe all types of fan groupings or subcultures, including Star Wars or Star Trek fans, fans of Luke Bryan or Lil’ Wayne or Dallas Cowboys fans. Fans crave the experiences and want to be as close to the action as they can be. As a result sports properties have evolved to create opportunities to maximize fan engagement.

Sports and entertainment properties understand how important fandom is for business and have taken measures to bring fans closer to the action (like NBA teams selling tickets to sit right next to the team bench) or creating unique fan experiences like “fantasy camps” or in-game experiences like playing a high school basketball game on a NBA court.

Project Description:

For this project, you are to assume the role of the coordinator for “fan experience”. Each student will create an event they believe their fans will like.Your goal is to get the word out to your fans about this great event.

REQUIREMENTS: Create a promotional advertisement in Google Drive “selling” your fan experience. Include the following in your presentation:

  • Target Market…. Who is this promotion really geared toward?
  • Back-story?This event can be geared towards charity or a fundraiser. Whatever you decided explain why you choose this event
  • Details of your event (who, what, where, when, how)
  • What “value” is there for the fan?
  • Create your advertisements:

-Create a marketing flyer for your event

-Create a commercial for your event. This needs to be at least 1 minute in length

-Create a radio ad for your event. This needs to be at least 1 minute in length

*Remember your ads need to match your target market. If your target is a family, your ads should have words and visuals that families are attracted to. If your target is teens, your ads need to have words and visuals that teens are attracted too.

  • Finally, now that you have passed marketing one, I expect higher quality pieces of work. I expect more creativity, I expect you to think outside the box and I expect originality. Your work is a reflection, make sure it’s a good one.
